Jeff Brohm didn’t need a hard sell when talking to Louisville football fans. He knows the schedule.
He knows the stakes. And he knows Cardinal Nation is ready to lean in.
With the season closing in and the first NFL preseason game already in the books earlier this week, Louisville fans are eyeing that Week 1 trip to Tennessee for a showdown with Ole Miss. It’s a big opener, and the Cardinals will be chasing the kind of early statement that can shape the whole season.
Brohm, a Louisville native and former Cardinal, has spent three seasons steering the program forward. Now the next step is the one everybody around the program is thinking about: the first College Football Playoff berth. Louisville has the talent to get there, but as Brohm and the fan base both know, it’s going to take a full, steady season to make it happen.
On the ACC Network, Brohm was asked what he wanted Louisville fans to hear. His answer matched the moment.
“Our message is let’s just get ready to play football,” stated Brohm on the ACC Network. “We think we got a great schedule.
We play 11 Power Four teams. We are one of five or six teams in the country to do that.
We think that’s great. Our fans love that.
They are looking forward to playing a tremendous SEC team in Week 1, also an SEC team in the last game of the year. And of course, great conference games along the way.
So, I think for us being competitive, playing the best, challenging yourself every week to step up and raise your level will excite our fans.”
That schedule is no soft landing. Louisville opens with Ole Miss, gets SMU in Week 3, and also has Pitt, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State on the slate. The Cardinals’ nonconference schedule adds even more heft with Ole Miss and Kentucky, a pair of SEC opponents that should keep the spotlight on Louisville from the jump.
Brohm clearly likes the setup. The message underneath all of it is simple: the opportunities are there. Now Louisville has to turn them into results, stay consistent, and make the case that it belongs in the playoff conversation.

After transferring from Florida State for the 2026 season, McCoy has been part of a revamped wideout group that also includes Tre Richardson, giving Louisville a pair of additions that could help reshape the passing game.
Wide receivers coach Deion Branch has been encouraged by what he has seen from McCoy since the offseason, and the expectations around the group have grown along with that progress. Under Brohm, Louisville believes the receiver room can become a strength, and McCoys development is starting to make that belief look a lot less like optimism and a lot more like a real possibility. Louisville has spent the offseason remaking itself almost from top to bottom, with three coaches out the door and nine transfers arriving to replace the old roster. The changes even reached the staff, where Peyton Siva departed for St. Johns under Rick Pitino, underscoring just how much churn this program has absorbed before a new season even begins. In the middle of all that movement sits Flory Bidunga, one of the headline additions and the kind of player who can change the feel of a roster quickly.
Adrian Wooley, one of the Cardinals who stayed put, has already pointed to Bidunga as someone who can swing things in more ways than one.
