Louisville’s first fall camp practice brought one clear sign that the Cardinals’ roster may still have room to grow.
Jeff Brohm said Thursday that the program is already looking at potential additions after the recent eligibility ruling involving seniors from the 2022 class. A Colorado judge granted a preliminary injunction that gives outgoing seniors from that class another year and a fifth season of eligibility, and Brohm made it plain Louisville is paying attention.
"Yes, we have some targets there," stated Brohm. "For us, we're making sure that this ruling and the declaration of how this is going to work become fully clear.
We're in position to do what we need to do, as long as everything gets approved by our conference, our administration. We want to make sure that we're on the up and up and we're doing things right, but there are a couple of young men that would fit that category for us that we've been in contact with”
He added, "As this continues to be allowed at other places and we don't think this is going to be overturned,” stated Brohm, “we will proceed down that route for sure."
The comments came as Louisville opened fall camp and moved a step closer to its Week 1 matchup with Ole Miss. The Cardinals were notably left out of the preseason Coaches Poll, but the bigger immediate concern on Thursday was health.
Isaac Brown was on the sideline for the first practice because of an injury. Brohm addressed it afterward and said the team simply needs to get him healthier.
Even with that, Louisville’s roster picture clearly isn’t finished. Brohm’s remarks showed the Cardinals are already in contact with multiple players who could fit under the new ruling, and he left the door open for more movement if the eligibility situation keeps holding.
