Jeff Brohm has Louisville sitting on the edge of something the program has never done before.
The Cardinals are drawing real buzz heading into 2026, and the reason starts with the work Brohm did in the transfer portal. Louisville brought in more than 32 transfers this offseason, including multiple 4-stars and its starting quarterback, giving the roster a major boost before the season even begins.
That talent influx has Louisville in a strong spot nationally. The Cardinals currently own the third-highest odds to win the ACC, trailing only Miami and SMU, and the schedule only adds to the optimism. For a fan base wondering whether this could finally be the year, the path is there.
Louisville has never reached the College Football Playoff, but it’s now being mentioned among the programs with a legitimate shot to make their CFP debut in 2026. As @DaireCarragher noted, teams with the strongest chance to do that include USC, BYU, Louisville, Florida, Mizzou, Utah, Houston, and Navy.
What makes Louisville stand out is not just the roster upgrade, but the way the schedule lines up. The Cardinals won’t have to face Miami, Clemson, Duke, or Virginia this season. They do have tougher tests ahead against SMU, North Carolina State, Pitt, and Georgia Tech, but they also get five of the bottom seven teams from the 2025 ACC standings.
Brohm also filled key spots on offense. Lincoln Kienholz arrives from Ohio State and will get his chance to lead a college football program, while the wide receiver room got a major boost with the additions of Tre Richardson and Lawayne McCoy.
And then there’s the backfield, which may be the most dangerous part of the whole operation. Brohm brought back Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown, a pair of proven playmakers. Isaac averaged 8.8 yards per carry last season, while Keyjuan filled in when Isaac wasn’t available and averaged 7.3 yards per carry.
That kind of firepower gives Louisville a chance to be explosive against just about anybody. Brohm has already shown he can win on the biggest stages, including last year’s road victory over No.
2 Miami. Now the Cardinals just have to put it all together over a full season if they want to make program history and reach the College Football Playoff for the first time.

The Cardinals rolled past the Bahamas Raw Talent team 101-52 in an exhibition at the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League, with senior DeShayne Montgomery pacing the offense and junior newcomer Flory Bidunga making his presence felt at both ends of the floor.
For Kelsey, the bigger value was simply getting his team into a real game setting after so much time spent facing one another.
