Louisville has landed one of the most eye-catching commitments in its 2027 class in Ja’Hyde Brown, and the local wide receiver is now drawing the kind of attention that usually comes with a major recruiting battle.
Brown’s stock has taken off after a huge summer, especially after he won MVP at the Rivals Opening event. He had been ranked as high as No. 252 in the 2027 class and No. 49 among wide receivers, but his rise has been dramatic. He is now listed as high as No. 66 nationally, No. 11 at his position, and No. 2 among in-state recruits.
That surge has naturally put him back on the radar for other programs. Before the rankings jump, Brown was already hearing from a long list of major schools, including Alabama, Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, and Kentucky. With Alabama, Kentucky and others still expected to push hard, Louisville fans have had plenty of reason to keep one eye on the flip watch.
Brown, though, recently explained on the Pick A Side podcast why he chose the Cardinals and why staying home made sense to him.
“If you know anything about college football offenses, you know about Jeff Brohm,” stated Brown. “That was really a big reason why I chose to stay here.
Jeff Brohm is from here. He has a crazy offensive mind when it comes to football.
I’ve watched how he uses receivers with my body type in the past, and I’ve seen the production that they had, so I mean that just really made the decision easier too.”
That kind of public praise is exactly what Louisville supporters wanted to hear, especially with other schools still trying to pry him away. Brohm’s reputation clearly played a major role in Brown’s decision, and the Cardinals will be counting on that connection to hold.
Keeping Brown locked in has become a major priority for Louisville after the program already lost five commitments in the 2027 class. One of those was Allen Evans, a Louisville native who had been a huge pickup for the Cardinals as a top 100 national recruit and the No. 10 cornerback in the class before flipping to Vanderbilt.
Brown’s profile makes him a particularly important piece to protect. The Christian Academy of Louisville standout put together a monster junior season, finishing with 98 catches for 1,556 yards and 24 touchdowns.
