Louisville got the jolt it needed on Friday night, and Isaac Brown was the one who delivered it.
The Cardinals were down 14-0 after the first quarter and had to lean on their star running back to steady things. Brown answered with the kind of burst that made him one of the sport’s most talked-about backs before the season even started. ESPN had ranked him No. 5 among running backs and No. 35 overall in college football, and he showed exactly why on a night when Louisville needed him to take over.
The biggest swing came in the second quarter. Louisville was pinned on its own three-yard line and called Brown to the left side. He found space, turned on the speed, and raced 97 yards for a touchdown - the longest play in Louisville football history.

That kind of play has become part of Brown’s growing résumé in Louisville. With Keyjuan Brown on the sideline, the Cardinals needed a heavy dose of Isaac, and they got it. Coming into Friday’s game, he had 57 carries for 322 yards, a solid start but still below the standard he set last season.
Brown was electric a year ago, leading college football in rushing yards per carry at 8.8. He finished with 101 carries for 884 yards and seven touchdowns, a ridiculous efficiency mark that put him in a different class.
This isn’t new territory for him, either. Brown already owns several places in the Louisville record book from his freshman season. He set the program’s mark for rushing yards by a true freshman with 1,173, tied Lamar Jackson with five games of 100 rushing yards or more, and became the first Cardinal in program history to win both ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year.
On Friday, Louisville needed a spark. Brown provided it, and then some. The preseason All-American has now dominated the past two games, and the Cardinals will keep looking his way if they want that kind of momentum to stick.

Louisvilles latest trip to Florida State was the sort of game that can reset a season.
