Florida State and Louisville meet Friday night with both teams looking for a reset, and the matchup has the feel of one that could swing fast. The Seminoles enter at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in ACC play, while Louisville sits at 2-3 and has already dropped below .500 in the league after a two-game skid. Those losses have come by a combined six points, so the Cardinals have stayed close even as the results have gone the wrong way.
A big reason Florida State has a path here is Ashton Daniels. He’s coming off his best outing of the year, piling up five touchdowns in the 38-7 win over Virginia.
The passing numbers have been uneven - six touchdowns and six interceptions - but his legs have been a major part of the Seminoles’ offense. That matters against a Louisville defense that ranks 125th nationally in total production and 130th against the pass.
Louisville can answer with big plays of its own. The Cardinals have been one of the most explosive offenses in the country, with eight touchdowns of 50-plus yards, the most in FBS.
Lincoln Kienholz has been efficient, completing 69.1 percent of his throws for 1,394 yards with nine touchdowns and just one interception. Florida State’s secondary has been hit hard, too, sitting 127th and allowing 8 yards per pass.
The clearest path for the Seminoles may be on the ground. Florida State ranks 12th nationally in EPA per rush, and Louisville has had real problems stopping the run and creating negative plays. If the Seminoles can stay ahead of the chains, Daniels won’t have to carry everything through the air.
That said, Louisville’s defense is the swing piece in the game. The Cardinals are giving up 423 yards per game and more than 29 points per game, and their secondary has been especially shaky.
Florida State’s offense has started to trend upward, and Louisville just allowed 373 passing yards to an average NC State attack. Even so, the Cardinals have shown they can hang around, with their last three losses each coming by three points.
Availability could matter as much as anything. Florida State is missing several defensive contributors and rusher Samuel Singleton Jr., while Louisville has multiple defensive players questionable or out, including safety Antonio Watts. Louisville does have home-field advantage, but the line has stayed in the Cardinals’ favor by only about 3.5 to 4.5 points, which says plenty about how even this one looks.
The market lists Louisville as a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 59.5, and the setup points toward points. Louisville has the better passing efficiency and the home edge, but its defense is hard to trust against a Florida State offense that has found some life. The Seminoles’ run game should help them stay in good spots, and their pass rush can create a few timely stops.
Florida State wins 34-31.
Pick: Florida State +3.5. Also lean Over 59.5.

Louisville Faces A Friday Night Test It Cant Afford To Fail
Louisville heads into Friday night needing a response, and it comes with a tricky trip to Florida State. At 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, the Cardinals are still trying to steady a season that has already put them in an early bind, which makes this one feel a little more urgent than a typical league game in October.
Florida State is coming off a win over Virginia, helped by quarterback Ashton Daniels accounting for five rushing touchdowns, so Louisville will have its hands full trying to slow a confident offense on the road. The Cardinals do get a boost on the defensive side with Koen Entringer back from injury, and his return gives Louisville at least one familiar piece to lean on as it tries to avoid letting another winnable opportunity slip away. Louisvilles Florida State Test May Come Down To One Offensive Absence
Louisville heads into a crucial matchup with Florida State with one key piece of good news already in hand: starting defensive back Koen Entringer is set to play. For a team trying to keep its footing in a game with real weight, having Entringer available helps stabilize the back end as the Cardinals turn their attention to a Seminoles offense that will demand focus from the start.
The bigger question now sits on the other side of the ball, where running back Keyjuan Brown remains questionable and is shaping up as a game-time decision. Brown leads Louisville in rushing yards, which makes his status one of the most important variables on the board for a Cardinals offense that would prefer to attack Florida State with as much balance as possible. For now, Louisville can count on one starter being ready, but the outlook for its ground game still hangs in the balance. [Read more 🡒]
Pat Kelsey Now Has A New Chance To Land Louisvilles Top Guard
King Gibsons commitment to LSU gave Louisville an early hit in the 2027 recruiting race, but it also sharpened the Cardinals next move. Pat Kelsey and his staff have already poured real effort into building relationships with another elite guard in the class, Reese Alston, and the pursuit figures to matter even more now that one of the top backcourt names on the board is off to Baton Rouge.
Alston brings the kind of profile Louisville wants to keep circling back to in its next wave of recruiting, and LSU is again standing in the way. For Kelsey, the challenge is familiar: stay aggressive, keep the Cardinals in the conversation, and try to turn a promising push into a win before the competition closes the door. [Read more 🡒]
