In a surprising turn of events, former NFL defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche found himself in hot water after an alleged shoplifting incident in Georgia. The Union City Police Department stopped Nkemdiche late one evening, suspecting him of concealing groceries from a local Kroger store in his clothing.
Bodycam footage captured the tense interaction, revealing officers discovering candy bars, frozen meals, and almond milk, reportedly discarded by Nkemdiche before the police arrived. The officers didn't hold back, expressing their frustration with the former Arizona Cardinals first-round pick.
One officer, clearly familiar with Nkemdiche, confronted him directly: "I've run into you too many times, and you keep lying," he said, noting a suspicious bulge in Nkemdiche's pants. Despite Nkemdiche's protests of innocence, the officer remained unconvinced, citing past encounters.
This wasn't Nkemdiche's first brush with the law. Back in 2015, during his college days at Ole Miss, he faced charges for marijuana possession following a fall from a hotel. At the time, he publicly apologized, acknowledging his mistake.
Nkemdiche's NFL career saw him with teams like the Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, he’s explored opportunities in the United States Football League and the Canadian Football League.
Despite the store opting not to press charges, Nkemdiche was arrested due to outstanding warrants in multiple states. This incident adds another chapter to his complex post-NFL journey, highlighting the challenges some athletes face in life after football.
