Louisville’s roster has been turned over in a major way, but one familiar face is already making his presence felt in the Cardinals’ new-look locker room.
Associate head coach Sean Dixon said Adrian Wooley has emerged this offseason as the player setting the tone for Pat Kelsey’s group. Dixon, who joined Louisville from Clemson, pointed to Wooley as the guy leading by example as the Cardinals prepare for the 2026-27 season.
“I think AD has been tremendous,” stated Dixon on Wooley. “He is a guy that sets the standard, that is the standard every single day. So, it is clear to see that he is a leader by example.”
That kind of role matters even more for a team that has undergone so much change. Louisville had to replace nine players from the 2025-26 season, including all five starters and four of its notable leading scorers: Mikel Brown Jr., Ryan Conwell, Isaac McKneely, and J’Vonne Hadley.
Kelsey also lost three coaches, with Peyton Siva leaving for St. John’s and Thomas Carr heading to Indiana.
Wooley’s rise gives Louisville something steady to lean on. The former Kennesaw State transfer arrived as a 5-star portal addition, ranked No. 9 overall and No. 2 among combo guards, and he wasted no time carving out a role. In his first season with the Cardinals, he started 16 games and averaged 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.
The expectations around Wooley are already building outside the program, too. Field of 68’s Rob Dauster has said he believes Wooley could end up as Louisville’s leading scorer.
Dixon made it clear that Wooley isn’t just producing - he’s also grasping what the program demands.
“He is the one guy that understands the expectations and what it takes to succeed here on a daily basis,” stated Dixon on Wooley.
With so many new pieces around him, Louisville needs that kind of voice. Wooley gives Kelsey a player who knows the system, understands the message, and can help carry it into a season that already has Cardinals fans counting down the days.
