Louisville basketball fans are starting to sweat over the future of their star guard, Adrian Wooley. The buzz began when Wooley, a former 5-star transfer, posted a cryptic Instagram story showing him walking without any Louisville gear, captioned simply with the word “soon.”
Back in February, whispers of SEC interest in Wooley started circulating. With the season now wrapped up, more powerhouse programs are eyeing him. Wooley came to the Cardinals as a top-10 transfer, bringing high expectations for his potential as an elite guard.
However, his season with Louisville didn’t quite hit the mark. Coming off the bench, Wooley averaged just 22 minutes per game, scoring 8.7 points on 45% shooting and 35% from three-point range. Many fans and analysts see his social media post as a hint that he might soon enter the Transfer Portal.
If Wooley decides to make that move, here are the top three programs likely to pursue him:
Auburn Tigers
The Auburn Tigers, who showed interest in Wooley last offseason, are expected to make another push if he enters the portal. After a Final Four appearance a couple of seasons ago, Auburn had a lackluster year without Bruce Pearl. A talent like Wooley could be exactly what they need to regain their competitive edge.
Auburn finished 20-16 and spent much of the season on the bubble. With ambitions of returning to the Final Four, Wooley, an Alabama native, would be a natural fit. Last year, he chose Louisville over Auburn, Alabama, and Kansas, but the Tigers are likely to come calling again.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The Arkansas Razorbacks began showing interest in Wooley back in February. With John Calipari at the helm-a coach renowned for recruiting top-tier guards-Wooley could find a welcoming home at Arkansas.
When Louisville faced Arkansas in December, Wooley’s performance caught Calipari’s eye. Despite scoring only five points, he impressed with 66% shooting from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, along with five rebounds and two assists. With Darius Acuff Jr. heading to the draft, Wooley could step into a significant role for the Razorbacks.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Growing up in Tuscaloosa, Wooley has deep roots in Alabama, making the Crimson Tide a prime contender if he enters the portal. A year ago, he was ranked as one of the top combo guards, and Alabama’s style-relying heavily on guard play and three-point shooting-would suit him well.
There's already chatter about Wooley and Alabama following the Tide's season conclusion. With their history of recruiting him, Alabama would likely be among the top suitors for the talented guard once again.
As the offseason drama unfolds, all eyes are on Wooley and his next move. Wherever he lands, he’s poised to make a significant impact.
