Speaking on Inside Rams Camp Friday, McVay pointed to a rep in which Garrett was doubled and chipped, then still found a way through.
“Did you see, when we had the slide to him and a chip [block], and he had six hands on him. And he still found a way to win? That was freaky,” McVay said.
That’s the kind of moment that explains why Garrett has quickly become the defining defensive presence of this camp. He arrived for his first Rams training camp after the massive June 1 trade with the Cleveland Browns, and the early takeaway is simple: even when the attention is overwhelming, he can still wreck the play.
The scene also brings back a familiar Rams comparison. In his prime, Aaron Donald used to face the same kind of treatment, with four to six hands on him and no shortage of resistance.
