Sean McVay Just Gave Rams Fans Little Clarity On Myles Garrett

Sean McVay stresses the importance of discipline and awareness as the Rams face multiple challenges, including coaching staff penalties and injury updates.

Sean McVay had two different injury-related updates this week, and one of them came with a little self-inflicted comedy.

The Rams coach said he still doesn’t have a firm timeline on DE Myles Garrett, who remains on injured reserve after knee surgery. McVay told reporters Monday that he expected more information by Thursday, but admitted he still hadn’t gotten it.

“I really haven’t even had a chance to specifically - I know that the rehab is progressing well, he’s looked good in the meetings,” McVay said of Garrett, via NBC Sports. “Literally as I was walking up I realized I said I would have more of an update, and I thought to myself, Oh, shit, I don’t have more of an update on Myles.

I’m a total idiot. But I haven’t had a chance.

Here’s what I’ll tell you, though: I’ll find out so that I can have more of a specific answer for you guys. I feel like Ron Burgundy up here right now.”

McVay also said he probably won’t open Garrett’s 21-day practice window next week, leaving the defender’s return date unresolved for now.

Elsewhere, the Rams are cleaning up a different kind of mistake. QB coach Dave Ragone was penalized for standing too close to the field and running into an official, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct flag. McVay didn’t hide his frustration with the lapse.

“Focus, concentration and situational awareness, we have to do a better job on that,” McVay said, via Pro Football Talk. “When it rains, it pours.

Shoot, we’re getting penalties on our staff now too. Thank God we won that one.

Rags would have never lived that one down. He felt bad about that one.

So he took great accountability. We’ll get everybody the hell out of the way.

And I need to get the hell out of the way as well.”

Rams LB Nate Landman was also fined $11,111 for unnecessary roughness.

Rams Trade Deadline Picture Is Starting To Get Very Interesting

The Rams entered this season with the kind of offseason aggression that tends to keep them on the phone once the trade deadline starts creeping closer. Les Snead has never shied away from looking for ways to strengthen the roster, and with the market beginning to take shape, a few teams around the league are suddenly worth watching from Los Angeles perspective. Philadelphia, Houston, the Chargers and Arizona all have reasons to at least listen if their seasons keep trending the wrong way.

None of that guarantees the Rams will actually swing a deal, but it does make the next stretch feel more consequential than usual. Each of those clubs could eventually decide to reset rather than push forward, which would open the door for players who fit what the Rams like to do in-season. For a team built to stay competitive now, the bigger question is less whether help could be available and more whether Snead sees the right opportunity before the deadline passes. [Read more 🡒]

Rams Fans Have One Clear Rooting Interest In 49ers Seahawks

The Rams have spent the first month of the season looking up at both San Francisco and Seattle in the NFC West standings, which has made the coming Week 5 slate especially relevant in Los Angeles. For a team trying to keep its playoff path alive, these next results matter less as simple rivalries and more as scoreboard math, with each outcome nudging the Rams either closer to the division conversation or toward the wild card picture.

From the Rams perspective, the clearest rooting interest is in Seattle, where a Seahawks loss would help improve Los Angeles position in the chase for a postseason berth. A 49ers loss would also carry weight by shifting the balance in the division race, and that is the kind of early-season leverage the Rams can use while the standings are still tight and every NFC West result seems to carry double meaning. Rams Take Cautious Approach With Myles Garrett Before Bills Test

The Rams head into their matchup with Buffalo in fairly good shape on the injury front, with Aaron Donald expected to be available despite not practicing Saturday. The bigger story around the roster is Myles Garrett, whose return still has no clear timetable as the team continues to manage his recovery from knee surgery with an eye toward getting him all the way back to form, not simply back on the field.

For Sean McVay, that leaves one more layer of uncertainty to work through before facing Josh Allen and a Bills offense that can stress a defense in a lot of different ways. McVay also updated the status of other players as the Rams sort through the final details of the week, but Garretts progress remains the situation worth monitoring as kickoff approaches. [Read more 🡒]
