Cam Skattebo found himself at the center of the conversation during the Giants’ Monday night loss to the Rams, and it wasn’t because of a highlight run. A clip of the running back shaking his head on the sideline and in the game quickly spread online, with plenty of viewers describing the moment as if he were “glitching.”
Skattebo, who was back for just his second game of the new season after last year’s season-ending injury in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, had a difficult night against a tough Rams defense. The Giants couldn’t get much going, and Skattebo’s stat line reflected it: 12 carries for 36 yards in the 28-6 loss.
The strange footage sparked a flood of reactions. Some people compared his movements to a video game character, while others took the jokes even further.
“Dude has limited energy you gotta glitch some off to like 96 percent or he will overheat and explode. The guy is always moving,” one commenter wrote.
“My lady said what wrong with him? I said he is scattered boo!” another commenter joked.
Others chimed in with, “Looks like a fish out of water” and “Take the monster truck away from this guy.”
A few viewers went in a different direction, suggesting it could be CTE or calling for the league to “drug test” him after seeing the clip.
But plenty of others pointed out that there was nothing unusual going on. One commenter wrote, “He does it to be comfortable in his helmet.
Did in college as well,” while another said, “Bro has done it since Highschool. He addressed it at ASU has a compulsive issue with his helmet.”
Skattebo had already explained the head-shaking in a 2022 social media post, saying it was tied to sweat under his helmet.
“Twitter just thought I should address the head shakes during the game lol . During the game I sweat and it causes my face to be wet.
While my sweat drys on my face it causes my pads on the inside of my helmet to stick to my cheeks. If I had a head injury I would address it,” Skattebo shared.
The running back’s path to this point has been a long one. He spent two years at Sacramento State and two more at Arizona State before the Giants selected him in the fourth round of last year’s NFL Draft. He made an immediate impression as a rookie before suffering the right ankle fracture-dislocation that ended his season and required emergency surgery.
His return this year has been a welcome sight for Giants fans, especially with the team still dealing with injury issues of its own, including Jaxson Dart leaving Monday’s game with a knee injury.
Skattebo opened the season with 81 rushing yards and a touchdown in Week 1, but Monday night was a much rougher outing for both him and the Giants.
