The Los Angeles Rams may have to keep waiting on Myles Garrett.
After being placed on injured reserve following the season opener, the two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year was originally expected to miss at least four weeks. But a new update from NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Sunday morning pushed that recovery window back to six weeks.
That puts Garrett’s potential return in a much narrower - and later - range. The earliest he could be back is Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals on October 18, but the Rams are expected to be careful here, which makes the back end of that timeline the likelier target.
If that holds, Garrett could also sit out Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders and Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers before finally making his way back for Week 9 against the Washington Commanders on November 8.
That’s a far cry from what the Rams were hoping for when they made one of the biggest blockbuster trades in recent NFL history. Earlier this year, Los Angeles sent out star pass rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional third-round pick that can be upgraded to a first-round pick.
Garrett arrived fresh off his second Defensive Player of the Year Award and after setting the NFL single-season sack record with 23 for the Cleveland Browns. Now, instead of anchoring the Rams’ defense right away, he may not be back until the third month of the season.
