However, in a recent mock draft by NFL analyst Gennaro Filice, the Rams are taking a different route. With their first pick at No. 13, acquired from the Atlanta Falcons, Filice has them selecting Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate.
This choice is intriguing, given the Rams' current depth at wide receiver. They already boast Puka Nacua, arguably the top receiver in the league, alongside veteran Davante Adams, who continues to perform at an elite level.
Adding Tate to this mix would certainly enhance their offensive firepower, but it might be seen as prioritizing luxury over necessity, leaving the cornerback position still wanting.
Filice acknowledges this dilemma, noting that the Rams' options were limited by the selections just before their turn. The Miami Dolphins are projected to snag Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy at No. 11, followed by the Dallas Cowboys picking LSU corner Mansoor Delane at No. 12.
Instead of reaching for a less desirable defensive back, Filice suggests the Rams select the best available talent, which in this case is Tate. With Matthew Stafford, the reigning MVP, back at quarterback, adding an acrobatic vertical threat like Tate could elevate the Rams' already top-ranked offense. Sean McVay would have the flexibility to deploy a formidable three-receiver set with Nacua, Adams, and Tate, creating nightmares for opposing defenses.
For their second first-round pick at No. 29, Filice projects the Rams to choose Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren. While not a cornerback, McNeil-Warren is a skilled player who could help shore up the secondary, addressing another area of need.
These picks would certainly add excitement to the Rams' roster, but the cornerback position remains a concern unless addressed through free agency. The Rams' draft strategy will be crucial as they look to build on their near-Super Bowl run and solidify their defense for the challenges ahead.
