The Rams wasted no time adding help after injuries hit the roster at the start of training camp, and Les Snead turned to a familiar pipeline for the answer. Los Angeles signed UFL safety Alex Cook, another player with a chance to make the kind of jump that once worked out well for the team with Harrison Mevis.
Cook comes to the Rams after spending his latest stretch with the Birmingham Stallions, the same UFL team that produced Mevis. Mevis made a strong impression in Los Angeles after his run in the UFL, and Snead is now trying to strike gold again with another player from that same source.
At 6-foot-1 and 196 pounds, Cook fits more as a hybrid defensive back than a pure safety, which puts him in the same general lane as veteran Quentin Lake. He has NFL experience on his résumé too, with previous stops with the Panthers, Giants and Bears. In 2023, he played in 10 games for Carolina and made two starts.
Cook has also been busy in the UFL. He appeared in 10 games for Birmingham in 2026 and posted 43 tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception. The Stallions’ final game of that season came on May 30, so Cook arrives in Los Angeles already in football shape while plenty of others are still ramping up.
That timing matters. The Rams are looking for players who can handle the faster pace of the game, and Cook’s speed could help him in coverage on special teams. He was timed as fast as 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a number that gives him a real chance to contribute beyond just filling a camp spot.
For now, Cook is still a name many Rams fans may not know well. That could change quickly if he carries his momentum through preseason and turns this opportunity into a roster spot.
