The Rams didn’t have Puka Nacua on Monday night, but they didn’t need him to find their rhythm.
Matthew Stafford put the rough opener behind him and carved up the Giants in a 28-7 win, throwing for 327 yards and four touchdowns. His best connection of the night came with Davante Adams, who quickly became the centerpiece of the offense and made the Giants pay over and over again.
Stafford’s first touchdown came late in the first quarter on a 31-yard strike to Adams, who was left wide open. That was only the start. On the next Rams possession, Adams used a double move to create separation and turn it into a 64-yard catch, then later added his second touchdown grab of the night in the third quarter.
By the end of the game, Adams had eight catches for 195 yards, and Stafford made it clear the Rams needed every bit of it with one of their top targets sidelined.
“He’s an elite player,” Stafford said, via the team’s website. “He made all sorts of plays today.
[He] made contested catches. He ran great routes and got open.
He did it all for us, and he’s a guy that can do that. We understand that.
We know it. And like I said, leaned on him big time tonight, and he came through for us.”
The Rams will be looking for more help next weekend in Denver, but Monday night was a strong reminder of what they can still do even when the roster isn’t at full strength.
