The Los Angeles Rams’ roster cutdown brought one trade into focus, and now the return is clear: tight end Mark Redman is headed to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick, according to the team website.
At first glance, it’s not the kind of haul that moves the needle. But the Rams were staring at the possibility of losing Redman on waivers anyway, so this at least gives them a draft asset instead of walking away empty-handed. In that sense, it’s a small win.
The bigger issue for Los Angeles is what this says about the draft cupboard down the road. The Rams have already poured a significant amount of money into building the 2026 roster, and they’ve also shipped out multiple picks in major trades. That makes the extra 2028 selection useful, but it doesn’t do anything to ease the pressure in 2027.
And 2027 is where the concern really lives. The Rams could be dealing with a roster that’s tough to keep together, with nearly half the team potentially headed for free agency next offseason.
Right now, the team is sitting on eight picks in that draft, but six of them are Day 3 selections. Three are in the final round.
Les Snead has made a habit of finding value late, but there’s no denying that a draft loaded toward the back end makes the job harder.
There are no changes to the Rams’ 2029 picks.
For now, fans can look ahead to 2026 with plenty of excitement. But the bill for all that roster building is coming, and it’s coming in 2027. If the Rams can get through that stretch, the payoff could come later, when they’re better positioned to replenish the roster in 2028 and beyond.
