Rams Face One Trade Deadline Question That Could Define This Push

The Los Angeles Rams are actively evaluating trade options to bolster their lineup, highlighting potential deals before the NFL trade deadline.

The Rams look like a team that could be in the market at the NFL trade deadline, and the need list stretches beyond just wide receiver. They’ve been linked to pass-catching help, but there are other spots that could use attention too. A move before next week seems unlikely, but these are three names they should be looking at right away.

Joshua Downs is the kind of target that makes sense if the Rams want help now without paying top-shelf price. Brian Thomas Jr. would also be in the conversation, especially because he would give Los Angeles an “X” receiver while Davante Adams is injured.

But Downs wouldn’t cost as much as Thomas, and he could still slide into the offense once Adams returns. The Rams need a dependable WR3 when they’re in 11 personnel, and Tutu Atwell and Konata Mumpfield have shown flashes without offering the kind of consistency the team needs.

Downs brings speed, but the bigger selling point is what he can do after the catch and how well he creates separation with his route-running. With the Colts in a fire-sale situation and Downs requesting a trade, this is a name the Rams should be exploring.

Price: 2027 fourth-round pick

A defensive line addition may not be the flashiest move, but it would make plenty of sense. The Rams have some depth up front, but they’re about to lean on it more heavily with Kobie Turner and Poona Ford out.

Turner is expected back at some point, but Ford is done for the season, and that leaves a gap in the middle of the defensive line. The Rams are going to miss Ford’s presence there.

A’Shawn Robinson, who already knows the organization, would give them the veteran run-stopping body they need. Price: 2028 late-round pick

Edge rusher is another area worth watching, even if wide receiver and defensive line feel like the most obvious priorities. Khalil Mack would fit the kind of profile that can work for a contender, since he’s at the stage of his career where he wants to play for one.

Los Angeles has needed steadier pressure off the edge without Myles Garrett. Garrett is expected back within the next few weeks, but Mack would still fit in the rotation with Josaiah Stewart and could serve as insurance if Garrett’s recovery takes longer than expected.

The Rams can’t keep struggling to generate pressure off the edge. Price: 2028 late-round pick swap

Sean McVay Just Put A Rams Weakness Under The Spotlight

Sean McVay didnt need to dress it up after Sundays game. The Rams coach made it clear he was unhappy with what he saw on special teams coverage, especially on kickoffs, and he put the issue front and center as the team starts sorting through what needs to be cleaned up.

For a Rams team trying to stay sharp in every phase, that kind of warning matters. McVays focus on kickoff coverage suggests this isnt a minor nitpick, but a spot where the group has to tighten up quickly if it wants to avoid giving opponents easy field position and unnecessary momentum. Rams Get Encouraging Davante Adams News But One Problem Remains

Davante Adams rehab has taken a positive turn for the Rams, with Sean McVay saying the receivers recovery from a hamstring injury appears to be tracking toward the shorter end of the expected timetable. Adams recently underwent successful clean-out surgery, a welcome development for a team that has had to keep planning without one of its most experienced pass-catchers as the season moves forward.

Even with the encouraging update, the Rams still have to wait. Adams remains on injured reserve and will miss at least three more games, leaving McVay to navigate the offense without him in the immediate future. The good news is that the outlook is better than it first sounded, but the bigger question for Los Angeles is how soon Adams can turn that progress into an actual return. [Read more 🡒]

Rams Kicking Drama Just Took Another Turn Fans Didn't Expect

The Rams brought Joshua Karty back into the building this week, signing the kicker to the practice squad less than a year after cutting him. It was part of a broader round of roster shuffling that also included the additions of linebacker Jon Rhattigan and long snapper Jake McQuaide, along with the releases of offensive lineman Austin Blake, cornerback Nyzier Fourqurean and linebacker Elias Neal.

Kartys return adds another layer to a kicking situation that has already been unusually fluid, with the team cycling through four kickers in recent weeks while Brandon McManus remains on the active roster. McQuaides arrival is another notable piece of the puzzle, and the Rams now have some familiar faces back in the mix as they keep working through special teams and depth decisions. [Read more 🡒]
