Braden Fiske didn’t need long at Rams camp to figure out what Myles Garrett brings to the table. After watching Garrett get back on the field in recent days following time away with lower body soreness, Fiske came away with a simple verdict: the Browns star is operating on a different level.
“Not all men are created equal, that’s for sure,” Fiske said, via the team’s website. “He’s a baller, no doubt.
He’s getting a slide, there’s no doubt about that. Trying to work off him or vice versa, communicating.
The biggest thing right now is working on our communication of how to rush together, how we’re going to attack certain looks. As all four, the certain looks that we’re going to get when he’s on the field, preparing for that and doing our best to work off each other.
It’s been good so far though. I think we’re making strides.”
That’s the task in front of the Rams now: folding Garrett into a front that already includes Kobie Turner and Byron Young. The talent is obvious. The real work is in the details - how the group talks, how it sorts through protections, and how it decides to attack different looks when Garrett is on the field.
There may be another major adjustment coming soon, too. Aaron Donald is expected to make a decision on coming back soon, which would force the Rams to recalibrate again around another defender who would fit Fiske’s view of the rarefied air some linemen occupy.
