Contract talks between the Seattle Seahawks and Devon Witherspoon are still hanging in the balance, but there’s reason to think the two sides are moving toward a deal.
That’s the read from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, who said during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he expects the Seahawks and Witherspoon to eventually settle on a contract. The exact terms remain unclear, but Rapoport suggested an announcement could come before the start of the 2026-27 season.
“[Witherspoon and the Seahawks are] still kind of in a standoff trying to get that done,” Rapoport said. “That's in a more advanced state than the Christian Gonzalez deal is [with the New England Patriots]… I think there's a good chance Witherspoon gets done, I think.”
The two sides have been negotiating all offseason, and training camp is now underway. Nothing has been finalized yet, but the talks appear to be headed in the right direction.
The big question is the price tag. Witherspoon, the former first-round pick, is reportedly seeking a deal that would make him the highest-paid cornerback in the league. For now, though, that remains the ask rather than the reality.
The 25-year-old is entering the fourth season of his NFL career and is eligible for a new extension for the first time. In 43 career games, he has put together 249 combined tackles, including 170 solo stops, along with 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Last season, Witherspoon was limited to 12 games because of a knee injury. He missed five games down the stretch, then came back for the playoffs and played a major role in the Seahawks' Super Bowl LX.
