Browns QB Depth Suddenly Carries A Deadline Dilemma

Colorado Buffaloes alumni are making waves in the NFL, with standout performances and strategic moves that are reshaping the league's dynamics.

Travis Hunter is giving the Jaguars exactly the kind of two-way jolt Deion Sanders wanted all along.

A year after Jacksonville drafted the Colorado Heisman Trophy winner, the team finally leaned into that vision in London - and Hunter delivered in both directions. He caught a touchdown pass, then closed the door with a game-sealing interception off Texans quarterback CJ Stroud as the Jaguars beat Houston. It was the kind of performance that made the two-way hype feel real.

Hunter’s rookie season has already shown flashes, even with injury cutting it short. He finished with 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown, but his biggest impact is starting to show up on both sides of the ball the way it did in Boulder.

For Jacksonville, the payoff is obvious: the Jaguars are 4-2 and sitting first in the AFC South. Their next test comes against the 2-4 Indianapolis Colts, who are somehow second in the division.

Not every former Colorado standout is landing in such a clean spot.

Nate Landman is now dealing with uncertainty in Los Angeles after entering concussion protocol on Wednesday, putting his Week 7 availability in doubt against the Las Vegas Raiders. That lands amid a rough stretch for the Rams, who came into the year with huge expectations after the June 1 trade for Myles Garrett and the late addition of Aaron Donald.

But the season has started to slip away. Garrett has still not been cleared after the Week 1 injury against the San Francisco 49ers, Davante Adams is expected to miss up to 10 games with a hamstring injury, and the Rams just took a stunning 18-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Browns, meanwhile, are looking more stable under new coach Todd Monken, even while sharing the best record in the AFC North without Shedeur Sanders running the offense. That situation has fueled talk that Sanders or fellow backup Dillon Gabriel could be on the move before the NFL Trade Deadline.

Former Browns edge rusher and three-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots Willie McGinest thinks Sanders could be the one dealt.

"Shedeur didn’t put the pressure on the position by coming into the league. I mean that by saying he wasn’t like a top pick.

Now, if you’re a No. 1 pick, if you’re a top 10 pick, then you put the pressure on the position right away," McGinest began. "It always comes down to who gives us the best chance to win."

For now, Deshaun Watson is the one giving Cleveland that answer. He has thrown seven touchdowns and only two interceptions, helping keep the Browns tied at the top. But his injury history also makes it clear why Cleveland may want to hold onto either Sanders or Gabriel as insurance.

Gabriel, who lost the starting job to Sanders a year ago, appears even farther down the pecking order. Still, a quarterback-needy team could come calling for Sanders, especially if Cleveland can turn him into multiple draft picks.

Rams May Be Headed For A Tough Matthew Stafford Decision

Matthew Stafford has done everything the Rams could ask of him through the first six games of the 2026 season, piling up 1,794 passing yards and sitting atop the league in that category. Even so, Los Angeles has only managed two wins, and the gap between Staffords production and the teams record has become hard to ignore as injuries continue to stack up around him.

Ty Simpson is among the younger players the Rams are weighing for more snaps as they try to navigate the stretch ahead. For a team that still has Stafford performing at a high level, the question is no longer whether he can carry an offense, but how long Los Angeles can keep asking him to do it while also trying to build a clearer path through the rest of the season. Rams Suddenly Have An Offensive Question They May Not Avoid Much Longer

The Rams keep running into the same kind of roster math that makes the rest of the NFC West worth watching. Their offense already took a hit with Davante Adams gone, and with tight end Terrance Ferguson unlikely to be back soon, the group is still waiting for more stability than it currently has. That is why the possibility of adding another receiver has started to feel less like a luxury and more like a question the team may have to answer sooner rather than later.

Across the division, the landscape is hardly getting simpler. The 49ers were pushed hard by the Commanders before escaping with a 23-17 win, a reminder that even veteran teams can leave chances on the table, while Seattle is dealing with its own uncertainty around Sam Darnold and the state of the offense. If Zach Charbonnet is back in Week 7, the Seahawks can lean more on the ground game, but for the Rams the bigger issue is whether their own passing attack can hold up long enough without another move to shore it up. Rams Suddenly Face A Huge WR Decision After Latest Injury Blow

The Rams receiver room took another hit when Davante Adams was projected to miss six to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, adding more pressure to an offense already dealing with multiple injuries to key players. With Matthew Stafford and the passing game now facing a thinner margin for error, the team has been pushed into a tougher roster conversation than it expected this early in the stretch run.

Alex Kay floated the idea of Los Angeles looking at free-agent Tyreek Hill as a way to soften the blow, but the timing may not be on the Rams side. Hills agent has said he is close to signing with another NFL team, and there has been no official report of a deal with Los Angeles, leaving the Rams to weigh whether they need to act quickly or look elsewhere for help.
