Alabama's Ty Simpson Linked to Major NFC Powerhouse This Offseason

Alabama's Ty Simpson could become the next successor for the Los Angeles Rams as they eye a top quarterback prospect in the upcoming draft.

Alabama's star quarterback Ty Simpson is catching the eye of an NFC powerhouse this offseason. After a standout 2025 season with the Crimson Tide, where he threw for 3,567 yards, notching 28 touchdowns against just five interceptions, Simpson's arm talent and pocket footwork have NFL analysts buzzing. What makes his performance even more impressive is that he didn't have a robust running game to support him, making him the linchpin of Kalen DeBoer’s offense every Saturday.

With the NFL Combine around the corner, Simpson is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in his draft class, trailing only Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza. While top quarterback prospects usually land with teams in rebuilding phases, there's a real possibility that Simpson could find himself on a Super Bowl contender next season.

During a recent segment on ESPN’s “NFL Draft Daily,” analyst Louis Riddick mentioned that the Los Angeles Rams have shown interest in Simpson. Although Riddick stopped short of predicting a first-round pick, he emphasized that Simpson is a good fit for Sean McVay’s scheme.

“I can tell you this, I know personally, look, I know that they like Ty Simpson from Alabama,” Riddick stated. “And when you look at Ty’s skill set, and you think about Ty’s makeup, that’s exactly what they’re looking for.”

Matthew Stafford remains an elite quarterback, fresh off an MVP season with a 65% completion rate, 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions. However, at 38, and with past flirtations with retirement, the Rams must consider their future at the quarterback position. With the 13th and 29th picks in this year’s draft, the Rams are in a prime position to potentially make a move for Simpson, ensuring they stay competitive in the NFC for years to come.
