Aaron Donald’s return to the NFL has already come with an off-field headache, and this one is playing out in court.
The former Rams star, who is back after unretiring this offseason, is locked in a bitter dispute with his former longtime partner, Jaelynn Blakey. At the center of it is a family pet, but the fight has grown far bigger than that. In late July 2026, Donald filed court papers seeking temporary sole physical custody of their two minor children, saying they were in immediate danger because a French bulldog was living at Blakey’s home.
Donald’s filing claimed the dog had already bitten both children on the face, along with Blakey’s niece. He backed that up with photographs of the injuries. He also accused Blakey of trying to keep the dog hidden from him and of telling the children not to “run their mouths” about the animal coming back to the house.
Blakey pushed back hard in her own court declarations. She denied telling the children to lie and said the dog had long been a family pet and an emotional-support animal. Her argument was that Donald was using safety concerns as leverage to take away a pet the children loved and weren’t afraid of.
Then came the part that made the feud public. TMZ obtained and published a transcript of private text messages between the two, laying out a tense co-parenting standoff over the French bulldog.
The messages show Donald repeatedly pressing Blakey on whether the dog was back in the house. On June 26, 2026, he asked, “Is that dog back in that house?”
Blakey didn’t answer that question directly. Instead, she turned the conversation back to the children, asking why they had not been returned to her after a scheduled visit.
She wrote, “Why were the kids never brought back? It went from going Saturday to a few hours to it’s to [sic] late we’ll be back Sunday afternoon to nothing …”
Donald kept pushing. He raised the dog’s history of biting three people in the face, including the two children.
“Is that dog still there?” he asked.
“But on another note, don’t fill comfortable with kids in that house with that dog. It bit 3 people in the face and 2 of those people was Jaeda and AJ.”
He went on to say, “You said you got read [sic] of the dog and it keep popping back up not really understand the disconnect with that.”
Donald added, “There’s multiple different places you can put the dog; it’s just not stable having that dog around no kids because it got a history of bitting, it already happened multiple times.”
According to the reporting, Blakey eventually agreed to remove the dog before the judge had to step in.
