Sean McVay isn’t shutting down the Aaron Donald chatter. If anything, he’s leaving the door wide open.
The Rams coach addressed the buzz on “The Daily Flock” podcast and made it clear that Donald is still weighing things carefully. McVay said, “I have crossed paths with Aaron Donald,” McVay said.
“What he’s going to do is, he is thinking about this. He’s going to go through his process.
And the one thing about Aaron Donald is, what he does, he does it full speed ahead.”
That’s enough to keep the speculation rolling, especially after Donald was seen working out on the Rams’ practice field. Rumors about a possible NFL return had already started building, and the sighting only turned up the volume.
The idea of Donald coming back doesn’t sound as far-fetched as it might for most retired stars. He spent nearly a decade as the league’s top defensive force, won three Defensive Player of the Year awards, made eight first-team All-Pro teams and finished with 111 career sacks. He also stayed in phenomenal shape after retirement, though he would still need time to get back into football condition.
Even with that, a comeback would be a bonus rather than a necessity. Donald already has a Super Bowl ring, and as a future Hall of Famer, he has nothing left to prove.
But winning has a way of pulling people back in.
With the Rams now having Myles Garrett, Matthew Stafford and McVay in the mix, a return from Donald would create one of the NFL’s most striking storylines. The question now is simple: will he take one more shot at another Super Bowl?
