Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić is navigating some challenging personal waters as he works to bring his daughters to the United States following a split from his fiancée. In a heartfelt statement, Dončić expressed his deep commitment to his children, emphasizing that their happiness is his top priority.
“I love my daughters more than anything,” Dončić shared. “I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement. Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness, and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”
The situation has taken a legal turn, with Dončić’s ex-fiancée, Anamaria Goltes, filing for child support and attorney fees. Despite the separation, sources close to the situation confirm that Dončić has consistently supported his daughters, Gabriela, 2, and Olivia, who was born in December 2025 in Slovenia.
Dončić’s dedication to his family was evident when he traveled to Slovenia for Olivia’s birth, even if it meant missing a couple of games. Upon his return, he helped lead the Lakers to a 112-108 victory in Philadelphia on December 7.
Reflecting on the whirlwind trip, Dončić said, “I don’t even know how to describe it. It was a lot.
I was there for the birth of my daughter, so that means everything to me. But it was definitely a roller coaster.
… I got to see my daughter again, my newborn. Coming back, it was kind of hard to leave them behind.
But it’s a job, so I got to do it. So hopefully I’ll see them soon.”
The dynamics between Dončić and Goltes became more complex when disagreements arose about bringing Gabriela to the U.S. An incident led to a police call, but no criminal activity was found, according to reports.
On the court, Dončić continues to shine. He secured a lucrative three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers in the offseason and is currently leading the NBA in scoring with an impressive 32.5 points per game, while also ranking fifth in assists with 8.4 per game. His performance remains a testament to his resilience and focus, even amidst personal challenges.
