Bill Simmons didn’t hold back when he went after Luka Doncic’s on-court demeanor.
On the latest episode of his podcast with The Ringer, Simmons said the Lakers star is in the middle of the “most insufferable” version of his career, even while acknowledging just how gifted Doncic is with the ball in his hands.
“I think the guy is brilliant, I think he’s one of the best offensive players I have ever seen in my life,” Simmons said. “But it’s not a new take to say that his behavior during games has been a little insufferable.
“I think this is the most insufferable he’s ever been. I can’t believe how he behaves for two and a half hours at these games, and I don’t know one person who enjoys it.”
Simmons’ issue centers on the way Doncic seems to spend so much of the game locked into arguments with officials and reacting to nearly everything around him. He said the guard comes across as “unhappy, constantly, with everybody,” and added, “And now if somebody talks s*** to him on the other team, then he’s gotta focus his rage on this.”
This isn’t the first time Simmons has aired that gripe. Last season, he also said LeBron James appeared frustrated by Doncic’s tendency to hunt for fouls.
Doncic, though, doesn’t seem interested in letting any of that stick. After the Lakers beat the Miami Heat, he brushed off a question about a technical foul with what was described as a rather amusing and seemingly dismissive reaction.
For now, the noise is staying outside the locker room. Doncic has kept rolling on the floor, putting up huge numbers night after night as the Lakers ride an impressive scoring stretch and his early MVP case keeps building.

Bryce James Arizona Debut Already Raised One Big Question
Bryce James finally got his first official college minutes for Arizona, and the debut came in a game that immediately invited more questions than answers. In a loss to UCLA, the freshman guard played six minutes, finished without a point and did manage one assist, a modest opening night line for a player whose name alone guarantees extra attention every time he steps on the floor.
For Lakers fans following the James family tree, the timing only added to the intrigue. LeBron James was busy turning in a strong all-around performance for the 76ers in their win over the Bulls, while Bronny James saw brief action for the Lakers in their victory over the Heat. So when Bryces role stayed limited in Tucson, it stood out in a way that goes beyond a box score and leaves the next Arizona game with a little more weight attached to it. [Read more 🡒]
Giannis Called Out Miami After What The Lakers Just Did
Giannis Antetokounmpo did not hide his frustration after Miamis loss to the Lakers, and the postgame message was less about the scoreboard than the standard he expects from a team with bigger goals. He pointed to the need for individual pride and accountability on defense, making it clear he wants the response to start with him and spread through the locker room.
The timing of the critique only adds to the sting for Miami, which was already dealing with the kind of uneven effort that can get exposed against a disciplined opponent. Antetokounmpo still put up 30 points, but no other Heat player topped 20, leaving the performance looking more like a warning sign than a one-off stumble. [Read more 🡒]
Luka Doncic Is Forcing A New Lakers Identity To Take Shape
The Lakers have spent plenty of time this season trying to sort out their defensive identity, but Derek Fisher sees a different path taking shape around Luka Doncic. In Fishers view, the way to ease some of those defensive concerns is to lean into the pressure Doncic puts on opponents at the other end, where his scoring has become the engine of the teams momentum.
Doncic has been setting the tone early and often, and that kind of start can change the feel of a game before it ever settles in. He is averaging 38.3 points per game this season and has topped 40 points in four of his last five, a stretch that helps explain why the Lakers can look so different when he gets rolling right away.
