Los Angeles Lakers' standout Luka Doncic is set to miss Monday's matchup against the Washington Wizards due to a suspension handed down by the NBA. This comes after Doncic received his 16th technical foul of the season during a heated game against the Brooklyn Nets.
The altercation that led to the technical foul involved Doncic and Nets forward Ziaire Williams, both receiving technicals after a tense exchange in the third quarter. This technical foul count triggers an automatic one-game suspension for Doncic, unless the league decides to rescind it, as they did previously.
Reflecting on the incident, Doncic explained, "Williams was yelling in my face - three times. I just wanted to get out of there.
It's a double tech, of course. What can I say?
I didn't even talk. I just wanted to get out of there.
And they said I pushed - my push was 'exaggerated,' which (it) was obviously not. And I don't know what else to tell you."
This isn't the first time Doncic has found himself in this situation. Just last week, he was initially given a 16th technical for an exchange with Orlando Magic's Goga Bitadze, but the Lakers successfully appealed, and the NBA rescinded the foul.
Doncic is currently leading the league in scoring, averaging an impressive 33.7 points per game, while his Lakers hold a strong position, sitting third in the Western Conference standings. As the season progresses, his presence on the court remains crucial for the Lakers' playoff aspirations.
