Luka Doncic, the Los Angeles Lakers' dynamic superstar, found himself in the spotlight once again during the team's 116-99 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. But this time, it wasn't just his scoring prowess making headlines.
Doncic picked up his 16th technical foul of the 2025-26 season after a brief altercation with Nets forward Ziaire Williams. With just over five minutes left in the third quarter, the two were hit with double technicals following a minor scuffle-Doncic's light shove met with Williams' swipe to the face.
This technical foul means Doncic is staring down a one-game suspension, likely sidelining him for Monday’s matchup against the Washington Wizards. Given the Wizards' struggles this season, the Lakers might not feel the absence of their star too acutely, especially considering their 6-6 record without him.
This isn’t the first time Doncic has danced on the edge of suspension. Just last week, during a nail-biting 105-104 win over the Orlando Magic, he had another technical rescinded after a verbal exchange with Goga Bitadze. Doncic claimed post-game that Bitadze had crossed a line with personal insults, leading to the Lakers' successful appeal.
In his postgame comments after the Nets game, Doncic expressed frustration over the technical foul. "He was yelling in my face three times," Doncic explained.
"I just wanted to get out of there, and it’s a double tech, of course. I didn’t even talk.
I just wanted to get out of there. They said my push was exaggerated, which was obviously not."
Despite the controversy, Doncic's performance on the court was nothing short of spectacular. The six-time All-Star delivered a commanding 41 points on 15-25 shooting, along with eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block, propelling the Lakers to a 48-26 record.
Doncic's March stats are turning heads, with an average of 37.2 points per game and leading the Lakers to a stellar 13-2 record this month. While he's making a compelling case for MVP consideration, the race remains competitive, and Doncic isn't the frontrunner just yet.
As the season progresses, the Lakers will hope Doncic can keep his cool and continue to lead them with his remarkable talent and relentless drive.
