Luka Doncic is turning heads this season with performances that scream MVP. Known for his offensive brilliance, Doncic has faced criticism for his defense, but he's been steadily improving on that front. Currently, he's averaging an impressive 33.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, shooting 47.6% from the field.
The Lakers star made headlines with a significant weight loss before the 2025 season, shedding around 30 pounds. Now, he's taken it further, reportedly losing an additional seven pounds, according to a friend who spoke to the "Sloveina Times."
"Luka just told me the other day, he has lost another 7 pounds," the friend shared. "He's moving like a completely different player."
This transformation seems to be paying off. Doncic feels lighter, more explosive, and most importantly, free of the nagging calf pain that plagued him in 2024. Heading into the playoffs, his confidence is palpable.
With a 48-26 record, the Lakers have secured their playoff spot, sitting comfortably in third place in the fiercely competitive Western Conference.
After a stellar 41-point performance in a 116-99 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, Doncic voiced his frustration with MVP voters. "The better I play, the more I go down in rankings, so I don’t know what more I can do," he remarked postgame.
Doncic has been on fire lately, averaging 39.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists over his last 10 games. Yet, he's slipped in NBA.com's MVP ladder, overtaken by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama, with Nikola Jokic climbing to third.
The Lakers face the Washington Wizards next, but Doncic will sit out due to a one-game suspension after receiving his 16th technical foul of the season. The playoffs are looming, and with Doncic in peak form, the Lakers are a team to watch.
