Lakers Stun Fans With G-League Trade For Ex-Heat Center

The South Bay Lakers make a strategic move by acquiring promising center Malik Williams, aiming to bolster their G-League success.

The South Bay Lakers have been making moves that could shake things up in the G-League. Recently, they parted ways with a former teammate of Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks, and now they've brought in a new big man.

Malik Williams, a 6-foot-11 center, is joining the South Bay Lakers after a trade with the College Park Skyhawks. The deal involved a 2026 first-round draft pick and a 2027 first-round pick. Williams, once a highly-touted recruit, had a promising start but has faced some challenges on his journey to the NBA.

After five seasons at Louisville, Williams went undrafted in 2022. He began his professional career overseas with Anwil Wloclawek in Poland before bouncing around teams like the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Toronto Raptors, Atlanta Hawks, and College Park Skyhawks.

At 27, Williams has had limited NBA exposure, averaging just 2.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, with a shooting percentage of 26.5% over seven games. However, his G-League performance tells a different story. This season, he's been putting up impressive numbers with 16.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, shooting 41.9% from the field.

Williams' addition to the South Bay Lakers brings a fresh dynamic to the roster, and it'll be interesting to see how his presence impacts the team's performance moving forward.
