Lakers Collapse Against Warriors Took A Brutal Turn Fans Need To See

Stephen Curry's historic scoring milestone powered the Golden State Warriors to a dramatic comeback victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, overcoming a substantial deficit and securing their third straight win.

Stephen Curry moved another rung up the NBA’s all-time scoring ladder Friday night, and he did it while helping the Warriors pull off a wild comeback against the Lakers.

Curry scored 31 points in Golden State’s 112-95 win over Los Angeles, pushing his career total to 26,674 and sending him past Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins for 18th on the league’s scoring list. He entered the night with 26,643 points, sitting 25 behind Wilkins’ 26,668. The next target ahead of him is Oscar Robertson, who finished with 26,710.

Curry’s night came with the usual shot-making flair. He hit eight of 14 from 3-point range and finished 11 of 23 overall, while also adding six assists and four rebounds. Over his last two games, he has scored 75 points.

The Warriors needed every bit of that production after digging a huge early hole. Luka Doncic came out firing, pouring in 21 first-quarter points as the Lakers raced to a 38-15 lead after one. Los Angeles pushed the margin to 25 early in the second quarter before Golden State’s bench started turning the game.

De’Anthony Melton and Georges Niang each knocked down second-quarter 3-pointers that helped the Warriors claw all the way back to even by halftime. Since the shot clock arrived in the 1954-55 season, no team had ever trailed by at least 23 after the first quarter and then been tied or ahead at the break.

Golden State’s reserves were the difference in the turnaround, outscoring the Lakers’ bench 50-7. Melton finished with 16 points, while Brandin Podziemski added 21 points and six assists.

Curry also delivered the game’s most memorable sequence in the third quarter. Isolated on the wing against Doncic, he used a dribble move that sent Doncic to the floor before burying a 3-pointer.

Doncic finished with 37 points in the loss.

The win was Golden State’s third straight after an 0-3 start, bringing the Warriors back to 3-3. They return home Sunday to face the Clippers.

Luka Doncic Just Got A Warriors Rematch Lakers Fans Will Feel

The Lakers will not have to wait long for another look at Golden State, with the teams set to meet Oct. 30 in San Francisco in their first NBA Cup group-stage game of the season. For Los Angeles, it is an early measuring-stick matchup against a familiar rival, and one that already carries a little extra edge before the calendar even turns to November.

Luka Doncic and Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg had a contentious exchange in their previous meeting, and the moment was notable enough to draw commentary from ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith. With the rematch now on the schedule, Lakers fans have a clear reason to circle the date and watch how the next chapter between Doncic and Golden State unfolds. [Read more 🡒]

Lakers Win Is Fueling A Bigger Rotation Debate Without Luka

The Lakers 103-87 win over the Clippers offered more than just a clean result without Luka Doncic. It also gave JJ Redick a useful look at combinations he can lean on while the roster works through early injuries, with Jarred Vanderbilt and Sandro Mamukelashvili drawing praise for how well they fit together and Collin Sexton making his presence felt in a way that stood out to the coaching staff.

For a team still trying to sort out its rotation, that kind of performance can matter as much as the final score. The Lakers have reason to feel encouraged by the way the group is coming together, but the bigger question now is how Redick balances those encouraging pieces once the lineup gets closer to full strength. Luka Doncic Turns Lakers Warriors Rematch Into A Rookie Test Fast

The Lakers next meeting with Golden State is shaping up as more than just another early-season rematch. It also brings back a familiar individual matchup, with rookie Yaxel Lendeborg getting another look at Luka Doncic after Doncic helped lead Los Angeles past the Warriors in the season opener.

Lendeborg has been trending up lately, averaging 27.7 points and 10 rebounds over his last three games, which makes this a meaningful measuring stick for a young player trying to hold his own. Doncic, meanwhile, has been in full command offensively, scoring 93 points over his last two games, and the way he handles this rematch should say plenty about how far Lendeborg has come defensively.
