Former Lakers First Rounder Already Has A Big Decision Looming

As Dalton Knecht searches for his next NBA home following his release from the Lakers, teams like the Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards could offer him a swift comeback opportunity.

Dalton Knecht’s next NBA stop could come sooner than expected, and Washington has emerged as a team to watch.

After being waived by the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the Oct. 19 deadline, Knecht’s future immediately became a talking point. The 25-year-old was viewed as a candidate for a two-way contract, and that possibility now sounds even more real as interest begins to build.

ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel said the timeline may be short, saying:

“Within the next week or two, you’re going to see Dalton Knecht signed with a team on a two-way contract, and I’m just going to throw this out there to- not that I’m reporting or I’ve heard anything here. I’m just looking at some of these teams; if maybe there is a team that looks to waive somebody and bring in Dalton Knecht.”

If that outlook proves accurate, Knecht won’t be waiting long to find another opportunity. After losing his roster spot just before opening night, he could still land with a team early enough in the season to build momentum and possibly work his way into a stronger deal later on.

The Sacramento Kings have already been floated as a possible destination, and the New York Knicks have also been mentioned. But Siegel pointed to the Washington Wizards as a particularly interesting team to monitor.

“I think that the Washington Wizards are a very interesting team to keep an eye on here because they have Jamir Watkins. He was a second-round pick for them in last year’s draft, the 2025 draft, but he tore his ACL in Summer League, and he’s going to miss the entire 2026-27 season. Do they keep him on a two-way contract to reserve his rights or do they look to maybe waive him and bring in somebody else?”

He also tied Knecht’s appeal to a familiar connection in Washington’s orbit.

“I think that that’s something interesting to monitor because Dalton Knecht already has a strong relationship with Anthony Davis dating back to their days with the Lakers,” Siegel added. “Davis always talked about how he was very high on him as a rookie, and he would always look for him in the preseason early on in his career, and he felt like anytime Dalton Knecht would shoot, the ball was going to go in. So, just something to keep an eye on there.”

Washington’s two-way situation is worth watching because of Jamir Watkins. The Wizards drafted him in the second round in 2025, and while he was on a standard contract last season, they declined his team option and he became a free agent. The team then brought him back on a two-way deal after free agency opened.

That move didn’t hold long. A little more than a week after signing, Watkins suffered a torn ACL in a Summer League game and is now set to miss the entire 2026-27 season. That injury leaves a two-way opening on the Wizards’ roster, and with only a limited number of teams still carrying available two-way spots, Washington stands out as a realistic landing place for Knecht.

Knecht’s numbers with the Lakers last season were modest: 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game, while shooting 45.5% from the field and 34.2% from three-point range.

But his earlier stretch before Anthony Davis was traded to Dallas looked better. In that span, Knecht averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 35.8% from beyond the arc. That run, along with his connection to Davis, could help his case as he looks for his next chance.

Rui Hachimuras First Clippers Reunion Brought A Lakers Twist Fans Noticed

Rui Hachimuras first meeting with the Lakers since crossing the hall to the Clippers came with the kind of familiar backdrop that tends to follow a player in Los Angeles. Even in a game the Clippers lost, Hachimura was greeted warmly by former teammates, a reminder that his time in purple and gold still carries real goodwill inside the locker room and with plenty of people around the team.

Afterward, Hachimura spoke in positive terms about both his Lakers tenure and the fresh start he has found with the Clippers, keeping the tone gracious rather than pointed. Luka Doncic also added to the postgame mood by speaking openly about his friendship and respect for Hachimura, underscoring that this reunion was as much about relationships as it was about the result on the floor. Walker Kessler Is Already Forcing A Big Lakers Conversation

Walker Kessler has wasted little time becoming part of the Lakers nightly discussion at center, and not just because of the numbers. In his first two games as the teams new starter, he has given Los Angeles a clear rim-running, rim-protecting presence while also flashing efficient scoring touch, the kind of early return that can change how a roster is built around its stars. Coach JJ Redick has already singled out Kesslers ability and upside, and the fit alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves is obvious enough that it is easy to see why the Lakers are leaning into it.

What makes this start even more interesting is how quickly it forces a bigger question about what the Lakers want their frontcourt to look like going forward. Kessler has looked comfortable enough to matter immediately, and the early production suggests this is not just a temporary stopgap while the team figures things out. If he keeps giving Los Angeles that kind of two-way impact, the conversation around his role and the lineup around him could become one of the more important ones on the roster. [Read more 🡒]

Rui Hachimura Is Sending A Clear Message In His Clippers Role

Rui Hachimura brushed off Luka Doncics trash talk during their recent game, saying it did not change how he views the star guard. The moment fit a larger theme around Hachimuras present mindset: after spending time with the Lakers, he has sounded comfortable with where he is now and with the role he is playing on the Clippers.

Hachimura also framed his eighth NBA season as an important one, making it clear he is still focused on growth rather than noise around him. For a player who has already seen different situations and expectations, the message is fairly straightforward, he is not getting distracted, and he believes he can keep developing from here.
