The Washington Wizards’ latest move came wrapped inside a sprawling six-team deal, and it sent D’Angelo Russell out of town before he ever suited up for them.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the Dallas Mavericks are sending Khris Middleton to Washington as part of the trade, while the Wizards are moving Russell, a 2029 second-rounder, a 2032 second-round swap and a 2033 second-round pick to Memphis.
The transaction stretches well beyond those two names. Dallas is also sending a 2033 second-round pick with Middleton to Washington.
Detroit’s part of the deal includes Caris LeVert and two second-round picks going to the Bucks for Taurean Prince and Gary Harris. Charania also noted that the arrangement creates a trade exception for the Pistons and brings cap savings, with all three of those players on expiring deals.
Other previously agreed-upon pieces are folded in as well. Detroit is sending Marcus Sasser to Dallas, Isaiah Stewart to Memphis and a protected 2028 second-round pick to the Clippers.
Memphis is sending Santi Aldama and the draft rights to Tarik Biberovic to Dallas, along with three second-round picks - 2029’s second-most favorable of Detroit’s, New York’s and Milwaukee’s, plus 2031 and 2032 - to Detroit. The Clippers are sending John Collins to Detroit and cash to Milwaukee, while Dallas is also moving AJ Johnson to Milwaukee and a 2030 conditional first-round pick plus a 2029 second-round pick to Memphis.
Russell’s exit closes another uneven chapter for the 30-year-old guard. He arrived in Washington through a midseason trade but never played for the franchise last season. His game has not looked the same since his 18-point, 6.3-assist season in 2023-24 with the Lakers.
That stretch with Los Angeles unraveled quickly. Russell was inconsistent to open the 2024-25 season, and the Lakers dealt him to the Brooklyn Nets about a month into the year.
He lasted just 29 games in Brooklyn before landing with Dallas last summer. And once again, he didn’t make it through the season with the team he started with, as the Mavericks sent him to Washington in February.

Lakers May Be Backing Off Kuminga For A Stunning Veteran Pivot
The Lakers have spent much of the offseason reshaping the roster around Luka Doncic, and the early moves have reflected that direction. After trading for Walker Kessler and adding several free agents, the front office still has work to do on the wing, which is why Jonathan Kuminga has remained a name to watch as the team looks for another young piece who can fit the timeline.
Kuminga is still the priority, but the Lakers are also keeping their options open if that pursuit stalls. One possibility gaining traction is a veteran swingman who was just waived after a stint in Sacramento, a sign the Lakers may be willing to pivot from upside to experience if the market does not break their way. Warriors Just Took A Huge Step In Their LeBron Pursuit
LeBron James is once again at the center of the leagues biggest offseason conversation, with the Warriors reportedly making a real push to see whether a move to Golden State could become more than just a long-shot idea. Multiple meetings have already taken place, and Stephen Curry has been part of those conversations, which tells you this is not the usual background noise of free agency. It is the kind of recruitment effort that only happens when a team believes it has a legitimate opening.
For the Lakers, the intrigue is obvious because any serious traction elsewhere changes the temperature around James future immediately. The reporting points to mutual interest, but it stops short of any final call, which leaves plenty unresolved for a player whose decisions tend to reshape the rest of the league. Even with the Warriors pressing forward, the story still hangs on what James wants next and whether this latest round of courtship actually goes anywhere. [Read more 🡒]
