Team USA Triumphs in Gold as NHL Stars Shine in Milan

U.S. triumphs with Olympic gold as LA Kings' stars shine in a medal-packed winter spectacle, highlighting a standout performance by Team USAs goaltending coach and pivotal saves from Connor Hellebuyck.

The 2026 Winter Olympics have wrapped up, and the LA Kings are leaving Milan with some impressive accolades.

The United States' triumph in the gold-medal game means a big win for Kings' goaltending coach Mike Buckley, who was part of the victorious coaching staff. The goaltending deserves a nod here, with Connor Hellebuyck standing tall as the starting netminder.

His stellar performance in the gold-medal game, making key saves to keep the contest tight, paved the way for Team USA to clinch victory. This marks Buckley’s second stint with Team USA, following a runner-up finish at the 4 Nations Faceoff last season.

Highly respected in goaltending circles, Buckley’s journey to Milan was not just professional but personal, sharing the experience with his family. It’s a heartwarming moment and well-deserved recognition for his contributions.

On the flip side, a tip of the hat to Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, goaltender Darcy Kuemper, and Head Equipment Manager Darren Granger for securing silver after facing Team USA in the final. Doughty, despite adding a silver to his collection, further cements his legacy as one of the most decorated players in international hockey.

Alongside Sidney Crosby, he becomes the first player to earn three medals, with at least two golds, in the era of NHL participation. Doughty’s participation in all six tournament games and his historic international career likely pave his way to the IIHF Hall of Fame.

Kudos to him for another milestone at 36.

For Kuemper, though he didn't hit the ice during the tournament, his selection to the team speaks volumes. Suiting up against Switzerland in the group stage, he adds an Olympic medal to his achievements, complementing last season’s Vezina nomination.

As for Granger, this marks his second Olympic appearance, adding to a resume that includes titles at the 4 Nations Faceoff and the World Cup of Hockey. Known as one of the NHL's elite, his selection to Team Canada underscores his expertise and professionalism.

Congratulations to all for their remarkable achievements.
