Kings vs. Blue Jackets Postponed Due to Severe Winter Weather, Rescheduled for March
What was supposed to be a Monday night clash between two surging teams has been put on ice-literally. The NHL announced that tonight’s game between the Los Angeles Kings and Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena has been postponed due to severe winter weather in Columbus. The league has rescheduled the game for Monday, March 9, with puck drop time to be announced later.
This matchup was shaping up to be a compelling cross-conference battle. Both teams have been finding their rhythm lately, each stringing together solid performances as the league inches closer to the Olympic break in February.
The Blue Jackets, in particular, have been red-hot. Winners of six of their last seven and riding a two-game win streak, Columbus has been climbing the standings in the Metro Division. Their recent run has been fueled by timely scoring and improved defensive structure-something that had eluded them earlier in the season.
The Kings, meanwhile, have quietly built some momentum of their own. They’ve picked up points in five straight games, including back-to-back wins this past week.
That stretch has helped stabilize their position in the Pacific Division, where the race for playoff spots is tightening up. Head coach Jim Hiller’s squad has shown more consistency on both ends of the ice, and the team’s depth has started to shine through during this recent stretch.
This would’ve been the second meeting between these two teams this season. Columbus took the first round back on December 22 in Los Angeles, skating away with a 3-1 win at Crypto.com Arena. That game saw the Blue Jackets frustrate the Kings with a disciplined defensive effort and opportunistic scoring.
Now, fans will have to wait until March to see the rematch. With the Winter Olympics set to pause NHL action in February, both teams will have time to regroup, rest, and gear up for what’s shaping up to be a tightly contested playoff push on both sides of the league.
In the meantime, the Kings will shift their focus to Tuesday night’s matchup against the Detroit Red Wings. It’s the next stop on a six-game Eastern road trip that could prove pivotal in their playoff positioning. As for the Blue Jackets, they’ll look to keep their hot streak alive once they’re back in action-weather permitting.
