The Los Angeles Kings may be largely set after their offseason work, but that doesn’t mean the trade market is off the radar.
General manager Ken Holland has already added multiple proven veterans to bolster the top six and fill out the middle of the lineup ahead of the upcoming season. Even so, the roster still has a couple of glaring needs that could keep the Kings from making the leap they want in the Western Conference.
The biggest issue remains clear: finding another high-end center after the retirement of Anze Kopitar. The other major need is a puck-moving defenseman who can change the look of the blue line. That kind of fix may not be easy to land before opening night, but a few notable names are still floating around in trade chatter as training camp and the preseason approach.
One of the most interesting is Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Alexander Nikishin.
Nikishin has already surfaced in trade rumors tied to the Kings this offseason, and that connection makes sense. He fits the profile of the kind of defenseman Los Angeles has been hunting - a left shot who could pair with Brandt Clarke on the top unit and potentially hold that spot for years.
Among the names the Kings could realistically monitor, Nikishin stands out as the most compelling. He’s only 24, he could give Los Angeles the puck-moving presence it needs, and he would also help bring some younger legs into the blue line mix. If he truly becomes available, the Kings would have every reason to push hard.

The Kings are already putting their 60th anniversary season on the calendar, and the club used Crypto.com Arena to roll out a full slate of theme nights and promotions for 2026-27.
