A Los Angeles Kings prospect has changed course on his college hockey path.
Center Liam Lefebvre, who had been committed to the University of Vermont, is now headed to Boston University, according to a team announcement on Instagram.
The 19-year-old was taken 46th overall by the Kings in the 2026 NHL Draft. Born in Montréal, QC, Lefebvre spent several years in the United States high school circuit before returning to northeast Canada for his major junior career.
His 2025-26 season started with the QMJHL’s Rimouski Océanic, where he put up 15 goals and 29 points in 34 games while finishing at minus-8. Midway through the year, Chicoutimi Saguenéens swung a trade for him in hopes of adding size and scoring, and Lefebvre responded with 17 goals and 30 points in 25 games, along with a plus-9 rating.
He also played a key role in Chicoutimi’s run to the QMJHL championship, recording five goals and 12 points in 20 postseason games.
Not long after the Memorial Cup tournament wrapped up, Lefebvre was on the move again, this time to the Cape Breton Eagles. According to the team over at Mayor’s Mano r, he is expected to stay with Cape Breton for the 2026-27 season before joining the Terriers for the 2027-28 campaign.
Lefebvre also showed up in Corey Pronman’s latest prospect rankings at The Athletic, where he was slotted as the eighth-best prospect in the Kings organization. Pronman wrote, “ Lefebvre had an impressive first season in the Q.
He’s a tall, fast winger who’s quite physical and, on his best shifts, looks like a potential difference-maker. His offense is quite inconsistent, though, lacking natural playmaking skills, but he has a decent shot.
