Ducks Hit By Injuries As Kings Face Coaching Shift

Injuries shake up the Anaheim Ducks and coaching shifts loom for the Kings, while promising talent signs on in Henderson.

Ducks’ Defensive Duo Sidelines Ahead of San Jose Clash

As the Anaheim Ducks gear up for tonight’s showdown in San Jose, they’ll be missing key defensive stalwarts Radko Gudas and Pavel Mintyukov due to lower body injuries.

Gudas, the seasoned 35-year-old and captain of the Ducks, showed grit by suiting up against the Maple Leafs despite not being fully fit. His determination was evident, even though he didn’t land a punch in his tussle with Max Domi, a response to the contentious hit that ended Auston Matthews’ season. Gudas’ focus now shifts to recovery, aiming to be playoff-ready.

Meanwhile, the promising Pavel Mintyukov is also sidelined, marking his second absence in three games due to a similar issue. At 22, Mintyukov has been a bright spot for Anaheim, clocking an average of 18:26 on ice per game and closing in on a personal milestone with nearly 69 games this season. With 20 points to his name so far, his offensive potential remains largely untapped.

In their absence, Ian Moore and Drew Helleson are stepping up to fill the void on the blue line.

Coaching Changes Loom for the Kings

The Los Angeles Kings are poised for a summer of change, particularly in the coaching department. Speculation is rife that interim head coach D.J.

Smith may not return next season. Since taking over after Jim Hiller’s dismissal on March 1, Smith has struggled to ignite a consistent spark, leading the team to a 5-5-4 record.

With a career win percentage of .465, Smith hasn’t surpassed 39 wins in any season. As the Kings prepare for life after Anže Kopitar, they’re seeking a long-term leader to guide a talented core ready to contend.

Smith, who joined the Kings as an assistant in February 2024, might find opportunities elsewhere in the NHL.

Silver Knights Add Goaltending Depth

The Henderson Silver Knights, Vegas’ AHL affiliate, have bolstered their goaltending roster by signing Alexander Tracy for the 2026-27 season. Tracy, undrafted but impressive during his collegiate career at Minnesota State University - Mankato, brings a strong resume.

With a standout .946 save percentage last season and a solid .927 this year, he’s proven his mettle, winning over 20 games each season. As Vegas evaluates its goaltending depth, Tracy will vie for a backup role in Henderson, eager to make his mark in the professional ranks.
