Drew Doughty Exits Game Against Oilers Sparking Concern Among Kings Fans

Kings' star defenseman Drew Doughty exits game against Oilers with a concerning lower-body injury, potentially impacting the team's playoff aspirations.

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty had to leave Thursday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers due to a lower-body injury, and he didn't return to the ice. The Kings shared this update midway through the third period at Crypto.com Arena.

Before his departure, Doughty, at 36 years old, played 15:15 over 14 shifts. This season, he's been a key player for the Kings, contributing three goals and 14 points while averaging 22:48 of ice time across 50 games. His current contract keeps him with the Kings through the 2026-27 season, with an annual cap hit of $11 million.

The Kings faced a tough loss, falling 8-1 to the Oilers. Adding to their woes, forward Joel Armia also exited the game early with an upper-body injury.

Doughty recently showcased his skills on the international stage, playing six games for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. He notched an assist and helped Canada secure a bronze medal. The London, Ontario native has a rich history of representing his country, including appearances at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.

Drafted second overall by the Kings in 2008, Doughty quickly transitioned from the OHL’s Guelph Storm to the NHL, establishing himself as a top-tier defenseman. His accolades include becoming an Olympian at 20 and winning the Stanley Cup in both 2012 and 2014.

In 2016, he earned the Norris Trophy, recognizing him as the NHL’s best defenseman. Now in his 18th season, Doughty remains a cornerstone for the Kings, who are battling to climb into the playoff race in the Western Conference.
