As Anze Kopitar’s illustrious career nears its conclusion, he’s added another feather to his cap, solidifying his status as a Los Angeles Kings legend. On a memorable Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils-the same team the Kings bested for their first Stanley Cup in 2012-Kopitar etched his name at the top of the franchise’s all-time scoring list.
With his second goal of the night, Kopitar surpassed the great Marcel Dionne, becoming the Kings’ all-time leading scorer. At 38, Kopitar now boasts 1,308 career points, all with the Kings, edging out Dionne, who accumulated his impressive tally during 12 of his 18 NHL seasons in Los Angeles from 1975 to 1987.
Kopitar’s historic goal came with about six minutes remaining in the third period, prompting the Kings’ bench to flood the ice in celebration with their captain. While the goal tied the game, the Devils ultimately claimed victory with two late goals, sealing a 6-4 win.
In this farewell season, Kopitar has already racked up 10 goals and 30 points across 51 games. His decision to hang up his skates at the end of the 2025-26 season adds an emotional layer to every milestone.
Kopitar and Dionne’s journey to their records showcase different styles. Kopitar has tallied 450 goals and 858 assists, while Dionne reached his mark with 550 goals and 757 assists during his time with the Kings. Dionne, who ranks sixth in NHL history with 1,771 points, finished his career with 731 goals and 1,040 assists.
Despite the Kings’ storied history with icons like Dionne, Wayne Gretzky, and Luc Robitaille, Kopitar now stands alone atop the franchise’s scoring list.
This achievement cements Kopitar’s legacy and all but guarantees his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. A five-time All-Star and two-time Stanley Cup champion, Kopitar’s resume is further bolstered by three Lady Byng Memorial Trophies for sportsmanship and two Selke Trophies, recognizing his exceptional two-way play.
