Zach Ehrhard: The Dodgers' Rising Star with Hall of Fame Guidance
When you think about the journey to the big leagues, having a Hall of Famer in your corner is a dream come true. For Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Zach Ehrhard, this dream was a reality thanks to his high school coach, none other than Wade Boggs.
Boggs, a legend in his own right, volunteered his time at Paul R. Wharton High School in Tampa, Florida, where he helped shape Ehrhard’s early career.
Ehrhard recalls his time with Boggs fondly, saying, “It was really cool. He’s a great guy and really helpful.
Wade Boggs is a Hall of Famer. That’s crazy in itself, but he didn’t act like it.”
This humble mentorship undoubtedly played a part in Ehrhard’s development as he stands on the brink of making a name for himself in Major League Baseball.
The Trade That Brought Ehrhard to LA
Ehrhard’s path to the Dodgers came via a trade that sent Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox. Alongside James Tibbs III, Ehrhard made his way to Los Angeles.
This move was bittersweet, as it meant parting ways with his brother, Drew. “It was very emotional,” Ehrhard shared.
“It was a tough one, because just getting to play with him was such a dream. But afterwards, all my teammates that were there in Portland with me were very supportive and just let me know this was a good thing for me.”
Making His Mark in Spring Training
In his first spring with the Dodgers, Ehrhard is already turning heads. With a slash line of .316/.395/.500 over 43 plate appearances, he’s proving to be a versatile asset.
Among his 12 hits, five are doubles and one is a triple. He’s also shown speed on the bases with three steals and has driven in five runs.
Ehrhard describes his approach to the game with a straightforward confidence: “I don’t try to be anybody different than who I am. I’m a competitor, I’m a tough ball player. I’ve never been the 50 home run guy or the 100 stolen-base guy, I just kind of go in and play the game hard every day.”
Fitting in with the Dodgers
The transition to the Dodgers has been smooth for Ehrhard, who appreciates the personalized coaching approach. “What they focus on with the Dodgers, it feels much more personalized,” Ehrhard explained.
“They’re very specific and intentional with, ‘OK, you’re really good at this. So let’s focus on that.’
… They’ve made just little minor tweaks here and there that have helped me a ton.”
With guidance from legends and a supportive new team, Zach Ehrhard is poised to make waves in the majors. Keep an eye on this promising outfielder as he continues to develop his game with the Dodgers.
