Tarik Skubal Just Gave Tigers Fans A Reason To Hope

Tarik Skubal's heartfelt longing to rejoin the Detroit Tigers after his tenure with the Dodgers points to an emotional homecoming on the horizon, sparking anticipation among fans and teammates alike.

Tarik Skubal is headed back to Detroit, and the visit is shaping up to be a meaningful one.

The two-time Cy Young winner, now with the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending the first six-and-a-half seasons of his Major League career with the Tigers, said he would like nothing more than to finish his career where it started. On Barstool’s Pardon My Take podcast, Skubal made his feelings plain: “I would love to play my whole career in Detroit.

I would love to. And hopefully those negotiations can pick back up in November.

Hopefully they're involved with everything. I would love to return.”

For now, though, the next chapter brings him back to Comerica Park before any long-term reunion is on the table. In the final series of August, from Aug. 28-30, the Dodgers will face the Tigers in Detroit, and Skubal’s spot in the rotation gives him a strong chance to take the ball in one of those games.

“I don’t know what to expect or if I’m going to start there,” Skubal told The California Post. “I’m sure it’ll be emotional.

I’m sure it’ll be a ton of fun, too, because I love all those guys. I’ve been competing with them for so long, it’ll be new to compete against them.

Baseball’s the game. You gotta keep the game the game, and I look forward to it no matter how it spins out.”

Skubal said he expects the moment to carry some weight, especially because it would be his first time facing the Tigers as a visitor. He also wanted Detroit fans to know how he views his time there.

“I think what happened is just the business of baseball,” he said. “If anything, I’ve hopefully made myself clear that I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Detroit. I’ve said that multiple times.”

The two teams have gone in opposite directions since the trade. Detroit has hung around in the crowded but weak American League wild-card race and is tied for the third and final spot. Los Angeles, meanwhile, has struggled since the deal, particularly against stronger opponents.

On the mound, Skubal has been trending up with each start in Dodger blue. In three outings since the trade, he has logged 17 innings with a 3.18 ERA and 19 strikeouts.

He should get at least one more start before that Detroit trip arrives, and if the rotation lines up the way it could, the stage is set for an important game and a pretty emotional return for the left-hander.

Kyle Tucker's Dodgers Struggles Have Reached An Uncomfortable New Level

Kyle Tuckers first season in Los Angeles has taken on a far different tone than the Dodgers probably imagined, with the outfielder battling at the plate and in the field at the same time. He has been stuck at .230 offensively, and the defensive metrics have only added to the concern as his overall game has drifted away from the standard the Dodgers expected when they brought him in.

The recent stretch has only sharpened the discomfort around his situation, with Tucker searching for any kind of rhythm while mistakes keep piling up in view of everyone around him. Eric Karros even floated the idea of a reset away from the day-to-day pressure, a sign of how far the conversation has gone as the Dodgers try to figure out what comes next for a player whose form has become one of the clubs more uneasy storylines. Freddie Freeman Just Made The Rockies Task At Coors Even Tougher

Freddie Freemans stumble into the visitors dugout last week briefly put the Dodgers on alert, with the veteran first baseman leaving the field after tracking an infield fly ball against the Royals. He wound up sitting out a game to rest after dealing with overall body soreness, a reminder of how quickly an ordinary play can turn into a concern for a club trying to keep its lineup intact.

The encouraging part for Los Angeles is that Freeman has since moved past it and remains one of the most reliable bats in the order. For a Dodgers team headed into another demanding stretch, especially with the trip to Coors Field looming for the Rockies, having Freeman back to full speed matters just as much as anything else on the roster. Dodgers Suddenly Have A Ninth Inning Problem Before October

The Dodgers are heading into the stretch run with their ninth inning suddenly looking a lot less settled, as the club prepares to lean on Tanner Scott for save chances while Edwin Diaz steps away from the bullpen mix. Diaz has not been the dominant late-inning answer Los Angeles hoped for, with an elevated ERA hanging over his season and recent elbow issues adding to the uncertainty at the worst possible time.

Emmet Sheehan is set to be part of the solution on the roster side, giving the Dodgers another fresh arm as he comes up after showing improvement in Triple-A. For a team that has spent the season chasing October certainty, the timing matters almost as much as the move itself, because the bullpen roles now have to settle quickly before the games get bigger.
