Shohei Ohtani And Max Muncy Put Dodgers Fans On Award Watch

Two standout contenders vie for the highly coveted Silver Slugger honors following impressive seasons despite challenges.

Two Dodgers are still in the Silver Slugger conversation, with Max Muncy and Shohei Ohtani landing among the National League finalists at third base and designated hitter, respectively, for the 2026 awards announced Thursday morning.

The Silver Slugger Awards honor the top offensive player at each position in each league, with the winners chosen by managers and three coaches from every team in the league.

Ohtani put together another big year at DH, leading National League designated hitters in on-base percentage at .377, OPS at .889, wRC+ at 139, doubles with 26 and stolen bases with 11. Even though he didn’t homer after Aug. 18 while dealing with left knee and right biceps injuries, his 30 home runs still ranked second among NL designated hitters.

He started 134 games at designated hitter and was one of just four NL players to start at least 100 games there this season, joining Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies, Iván Herrera of the St. Louis Cardinals and Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Schwarber is the other NL designated hitter in the top two of the voting. He tied for the major league lead with 45 home runs and hit .232/.354/.503 with a 130 wRC+, 20 doubles, 105 walks, 97 RBI and 95 runs scored.

Ohtani already has four Silver Sluggers, including the last two with the Dodgers in 2024 and 2025, plus 2021 and 2023 with the Angels. He was also a finalist at designated hitter in 2022.

Muncy’s case is built on volume and production. After two seasons with extended time on the injured list, he played a career-high 149 games and led all NL third basemen in OPS at .837, slugging percentage at .490 and wRC+ at 129. He hit .252/.348/.490 with 29 home runs and a career-best 27 doubles.

Alex Bregman of the Chicago Cubs is the other NL third baseman in the top two of the voting. He hit .265/.355/.464 with a 128 wRC+, 28 home runs, 33 doubles and 76 walks.

Muncy has never won the award, though he finished in the top three in voting in 2021 as a first baseman and again in 2025 at third base, despite appearing in only 100 games.

The Silver Slugger Award dates back to 1980, and Adrian Beltré remains the only Dodgers third baseman to win it, taking home the honor in 2004.

Dodgers Fans Have A New Prospect Debate With A Fall Stars Twist

Major League Baseballs Fall Stars Game roster announcement gave Dodgers fans a fresh reason to keep an eye on the Arizona Fall League, with third baseman Chase Harlan and pitcher Luke Fox landing on the National League team. The showcase will be played Sunday at Salt River Fields and aired on MLB Network, giving the organization another chance to see two of its prospects on a bigger stage.

Now the debate shifts to who should join them, with fans voting on one more National League spot from a pool that includes Dodgers prospects Eduardo Quintero and Charles Davalan, along with Padres infielder Justin DeCriscio. For a player development system that has already put two names on the roster, the final choice adds a little extra intrigue for Dodgers followers who have been tracking the fall circuit closely. Dodgers Could Be Near A Tough Kik Hernndez Decision

Kik Hernndez has been one of the more familiar October pieces in the Dodgers recent run, a utility presence who has shown up in postseason after postseason since 2015 and given the club flexibility all over the diamond. Even with that track record, the offseason always has a way of forcing uncomfortable choices, and Hernndezs status is now part of that familiar roster churn as Los Angeles weighs how to reshape its bench and defensive depth.

One name that has surfaced in that conversation is Mauricio Dubon, the versatile defender most recently with the Atlanta Braves. Dubon would likely come at a higher salary, which only adds to the calculus for a Dodgers front office trying to balance value with familiarity, and while a move away from Hernndez looks increasingly possible, it is not yet official. Padres Could Lose A Bullpen Weapon To A Familiar Rival

The Dodgers have already made one major bullpen splash by landing Edwin Daz, and they are not likely to stop there as they keep looking for ways to deepen a roster built to chase another title. With Tarik Skubal expected to be a major winter target, Los Angeles is also being linked to a more immediate relief-market possibility in Padres left-hander Adrin Morejn, a pitcher who has quietly become one of the more interesting names in the division.

Morejn has been extended a qualifying offer by San Diego and has until November 17 to decide whether to take it or test free agency, which leaves the door open for a familiar rival to make a run at him. For the Dodgers, the appeal is obvious: pairing Morejn with Daz would give them another high-end bullpen look, while also turning a Padres weapon into part of the same late-inning mix that has long frustrated opponents in the National League West.
