The Dodgers are one win away from making the NL West official, and they’re turning to a patched-together pitching plan to try to finish the job Thursday against the Reds.
Los Angeles dropped Wednesday night’s game, 6-2, after the Padres beat the Rockies, leaving the division race still hanging by a thread. The Dodgers can clinch with a win Thursday, or if the Padres lose. Their magic number is down to one.
To get there, the club made a pair of roster moves before the finale. Right-hander Landon Knack is back on the active roster, while Bobby Miller was sent to Triple-A after pitching in Wednesday’s emergency bullpen game.
Miller, who entered after Blake Snell left with an injury, gave up two runs on three hits with one strikeout in 2.1 innings. It was his second big-league appearance of the season after spending most of the year on the injured list.
Knack’s most recent MLB outing came on Aug. 12, when he worked 2.2 scoreless innings against the Royals. In his two earlier appearances for the Dodgers this year, he allowed five runs over five innings. He’s expected to be part of Thursday’s pitching mix and could cover multiple innings.
The actual starter, though, will be left-hander Justin Wrobleski, who got the nod for the spot start. The 2026 All-Star has had a rough second half, posting a 7.09 ERA over 33 innings while giving up 13 home runs. He spent last month on the injured list with a forearm injury, returned in a bullpen role, and now is set for his second start in the last two weeks.
Across from him will be Brady Singer, the veteran right-hander for Cincinnati. Singer enters at 6-14 with a 5.38 ERA in 29 starts and 150.2 innings, and he’s been hit hard since the break as well, with a 6.34 ERA over 11 starts and 61 innings.
First pitch is set for Thursday, Sept. 16 at 9:40 a.m. PT/12:40 p.m.
