Since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers before the 2024 season, Yoshinobu Yamamoto has quickly risen to become one of MLB's elite starting pitchers. This Japanese right-hander made quite the impression during his first spring training, thanks to his unique preparation methods.
And with his stellar performance over the past couple of years, it's clear these techniques are paying off. Now, Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts seems eager to tap into some of Yamamoto's magic.
Recently, Jomboy Media shared a clip from the Dodgers’ spring training camp, showcasing Betts working out under the guidance of Yamamoto's trainer. The scene in Glendale, Arizona, is quite the spectacle: Betts is seen performing an unusual exercise, sidestepping with Yamamoto’s trainer perched on his shoulders.
This drill likely aims to boost core strength and balance. In another intriguing exercise, Betts and Yamamoto are seen honing their throwing accuracy, using a broom like a javelin.
As the Dodgers gear up for the season, they've named Yoshinobu Yamamoto as their Opening Day starter against the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 26. Yamamoto expressed his excitement and sense of responsibility, saying through interpreter Yoshihiro Sonoda, “It’s an honor for me.
And then it’s opening day at a Dodger Stadium home game, and that’s very [much an] honor to me. I also feel the responsibility.”
Last season, Yamamoto finished third in the National League Cy Young race, a testament to his dominance. With 30 starts, he pitched 173.2 innings, boasting a 2.49 ERA and racking up 210 strikeouts. His playoff performance was nothing short of spectacular, featuring two complete games in five starts and earning him the World Series MVP for his outstanding contributions in the Fall Classic.
As the Dodgers set their sights on another successful season, all eyes will be on Yamamoto to see if he can continue his remarkable journey.
