The Dodgers are set to honor two of their top minor league standouts on Sunday, with Christian Zazueta and Josue De Paula taking home the organization’s Branch Rickey awards for the 2026 season.
Zazueta was named Minor League Pitcher of the Year, while De Paula earned Player of the Year. The team will present both awards in a pregame ceremony on the field at Dodger Stadium before Game 2 of the National League Division Series.
For Zazueta, it’s a repeat. For De Paula, it’s the next step in a run that has already put him firmly on the Dodgers’ radar.
He spent most of 2026 with Double-A Tulsa, where he hit .303/.401/.547 with 27 home runs and 104 RBI in 124 games. He also represented the Dodgers in the 2026 All-Star Futures Game, one year after taking MVP honors in the same event.
De Paula’s year didn’t stop there. The 21-year-old was added to the Dodgers roster on Sept. 11 and made his major league debut that night against the Miami Marlins. In 11 games with Los Angeles, he hit .323 with one home run, seven RBI and 11 walks.
After being optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, De Paula appeared in three playoff games as the Comets won the Pacific Coast League and Triple-A National championships. He was also named Texas League Player of the Year for 2026.
The Dodgers signed him as an international free agent on Jan. 15, 2022.
Zazueta’s season was just as strong, and his second straight Branch Rickey honor puts him in rare company. He became the third Dodgers minor league pitcher to win the award in back-to-back seasons, joining Chad Billingsley (2004-05) and James McDonald (2007-08).
The right-hander finished 2026 with a combined 6-4 record and a 3.65 ERA in 23 games, 22 of them starts, between High-A Great Lakes and the Drillers. With the Loons, he posted a 3.88 ERA and struck out 66 batters across 48.2 innings in 11 games, 10 starts. After moving up to Double-A, the 21-year-old closed the year by going 4-2 with a 3.44 ERA over 12 starts.
Zazueta came to the Dodgers from the New York Yankees on Feb. 5, 2024, in the Caleb Ferguson trade. Matt Gage also joined Los Angeles in that deal.
The Mexican native was originally signed by the Yankees as an international free agent on Jan. 17, 2022.
The Branch Rickey awards have been part of the Dodgers’ annual tradition since 1989, with players recognized every year except 2020, when the minor league season was canceled because of the COVID pandemic. Among previous winners are Gavin Lux, Tony Gonsolin, Walker Buehler, Corey Seager, Joc Pederson, Chad Billingsley, Mike Piazza and Eric Karros.
This year’s honors follow 2025’s winners on the position-player side, Eduardo Quintero, and on the pitching side a list that recently included Dalton Rushing and Jackson Ferris in 2024, plus Michael Busch and Kyle Hurt in 2023.

Dodgers Let NLDS Control Slip Away After Another Offensive Letdown
Blake Snells afternoon never found a rhythm, and the Dodgers could not do enough offensively to take advantage of the opening it created. Los Angeles dropped a 3-2 decision to the Braves in Game 2 of the National League Division Series, a result that evened the series at one game apiece and left the Dodgers searching for the timely hit that has been missing too often in October.
Snell issued a season-high five walks, and the game turned on a chaotic stretch that included a wild pitch from Braves reliever Kris Bubic before Atlanta grabbed the go-ahead run. Freddie Freeman also came through for the Braves with a home run, his first since Sept. 2, adding another swing that helped flip the momentum and leave the Dodgers with a split instead of control. Dodgers Face A Lineup Decision That Could Test Braves In Game 3
After getting bottled up by the Braves in Game 2 of the National League Division Series, the Dodgers are staring at a familiar October problem: how to jolt an offense that went quiet when it needed to answer back. Atlanta leaned on multiple pitchers to keep Los Angeles in check, and now Dave Roberts is weighing a lineup tweak for Game 3 as the series shifts into a more urgent phase for a team trying to avoid elimination.
The concern centers on center fielder Andy Pages, whose postseason struggles have become hard to ignore, and that has opened the door for Enrique Hernandez to potentially step in and give the lineup a different look. Hernandez has earned a reputation as a reliable October bat, which is part of what makes this decision so interesting for the Dodgers, who need more than just better at-bats now - they need a spark that can change the feel of the series. Dodgers Suddenly Face A Real Andy Pages Lineup Dilemma
Andy Pages arrived at October with the kind of profile the Dodgers hoped would translate, but through two postseason games he has not found much traction. He has gone hitless in eight plate appearances, drawing one walk and striking out four times, and the swing-and-miss issues have stood out even more because they are so far above his regular-season norms. For a Dodgers lineup built to keep pressure on opposing pitching, that kind of drop-off from a regular contributor quickly becomes hard to ignore.
Dave Roberts has already made one adjustment by limiting Pages ability to challenge calls, a small but telling sign that the club is trying to manage both the player and the moment. If the struggles continue, the Dodgers do not appear short on alternatives, which only adds to the tension around Pages spot. In October, even a young hitter with legitimate upside can find himself one rough stretch away from a lineup debate. [Read more 🡒]
