James Tibbs III kept rolling at the plate Friday, and the Dodgers’ rehab arms added another layer to the night in Oklahoma City.
Tibbs, who has been the Comets’ most reliable bat this season, finished with three hits, a solo home run and two walks for Triple-A Oklahoma City. It was the second time in this series at Sugar Land that he reached base five times. He also went 4-for-4 with two homers and a walk on Tuesday.
The power surge has come after a long dry spell. Tibbs went 29 games without a home run from June 28 to August 8, though he still stayed productive in that stretch by hitting .307/.427/.406. Since then, he has gone deep six times in his last 11 games.
Oklahoma City’s game ended in a 10th-inning loss to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros), with Seth Halvorsen allowing a two-out single off the glove of Hyeseong Kim that brought home the free runners. Alek Thomas, the only other center fielder on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster - if you’re thinking of who might join Los Angeles after Andy Pages’ broken hand - also got on twice, with a hit and a walk.
Blake Treinen continued his rehab work with a perfect sixth inning and two strikeouts. He’s been out for more than two months with elbow inflammation and has now pitched three times on his assignment, once every three days.
Bobby Miller also stayed on schedule in his rehab stint, striking out four over two innings. He walked two and gave up a two-run homer, and his line now sits at six runs allowed in nine innings over four games, with 11 strikeouts and four walks. Miller, like Treinen, is on the 60-day injured list; he’s dealing with shoulder soreness and is 17 days into the assignment.
Elsewhere, Double-A Tulsa managed only three hits in a shutout loss to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (Diamondbacks). Josue De Paula had one of them, a single.
Christian Zazueta struck out nine in five innings, but the outing came with plenty of damage as he also allowed five runs, including a two-run home run.
At High-A Great Lakes, Nico Perez drove in four runs and Eduardo Quintero added three in the Loons’ win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres). Both players reached base three times, and Brooks Auger struck out four in three scoreless innings.
In Class-A Ontario, Ching-Hsien Ko homered and finished with two hits in the Tower Buzzers’ win over the Inland Empire 66ers (Mariners). Ontario’s pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts in the victory.
On the transaction front, Triple-A Oklahoma City saw Paul Gervase called up to the Dodgers, Emmet Sheehan optioned back to Oklahoma City, and Jonathan Hernández - designated for assignment on Wednesday - clear waivers and get sent outright to OKC.
At Double-A, pitcher Zach Root and catcher Nelson Quiroz landed on the injured list. Tulsa added pitchers Josehp Marte, Nick Putnam and Alex Walsh from Arizona to help cover a depleted roster.
