The Dodgers got a scare in the third inning Friday night when Andy Pages was drilled on the left hand by a 100.2 MPH sinker and eventually had to leave their game against the Pirates.
Pages was hit after Hunter Feduccia doubled and Shohei Ohtani singled to open up a rally in the bottom of the third. Bubba Chandler, the young Pittsburgh right-hander, was responsible for the pitch, and it marked the sixth time he has hit a batter this season. Pages initially stayed in and even played the fourth inning, but he was removed in the top of the fifth.
Los Angeles later announced on its official X account that Pages was dealing with a left hand contusion.

The timing is less than ideal for a Dodgers club that has steadied itself after a rough start to August. They dropped seven of their first eight this month, but have since gone 7-3 since Aug. 10 and entered the night at 77-51, good for first place in the National League West and the No. 2 seed in the league.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was on the mound for Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game home set with Pittsburgh, making his 23rd start of the season. He worked 6 ⅓ innings, gave up two runs and struck out nine.
If Pages needs time, the Dodgers have a few ways they can cover center field. Kiké Hernández took over for him Friday and made his ninth appearance there this season. Hernández, soon to be 35, hasn’t logged much time in center since Pages arrived in 2024, though he has handled the spot at various points in his career.
Tommy Edman is another possibility, though he’s been stationed at second base almost every night lately. Alex Call could also factor in as a more stable option; he brings strong center-field defense and has been a better hitter than Hernández over the course of their careers.
For now, everything hinges on how Pages responds over the next couple of days. Pages, a 2026 All-Star, has become one of the game’s best center fielders in just his third big league season, and his bat has been a big part of the Dodgers’ order. In 128 games, the 25-year-old is hitting .272/.338/.458 with a .796 OPS, 21 homers and 80 RBIs, usually batting second behind Ohtani and in front of Freddie Freeman, though those two were flipped Friday.
