Dodgers Suddenly Face A Freddie Freeman Question Fans Didn't Expect

As the Dodgers prepare for potential roster changes and contract negotiations, key players' futures hang in the balance while the team eyes a new generation of talent.

The Dodgers could be staring at a roster shake-up by 2027, with three players on the current group expected to be gone by then. Two outfielders and a reliever who played key roles in the 2025 World Series are not expected to return, a reflection of an outfield that has shown its weakness again this season, particularly in the postseason.

One of the names tied to that uncertain future is Alex Vesia, who is headed for free agency and took time to send a message to Dodgers fans before the offseason arrives. He addressed the off-field battles he dealt with while performing at the highest level, thanked the fan base, and reflected on his six seasons in Los Angeles.

"I don’t know what the future holds," he wrote, "but I do want to say thank you to Dodger Nation for showing me so much love over the past six years, especially this year. I’m just a man on a mission!"

Freddie Freeman may also become a major offseason talking point. The California Post's Jack Harris reported that the superstar first baseman, whose current deal runs through the 2027 campaign, could discuss a contract extension with the Dodgers this offseason. Harris wrote that Freeman has made it known he may want to keep playing at least two more seasons beyond [2028], leaving the decision in the Dodgers’ hands.

"The 37-year-old has indicated a desire to potentially play at least two more seasons beyond [2028], putting the onus on the Dodgers to make a decision on his future in Los Angeles," Harris wrote.

He added, "To this point, the future Hall of Fame first baseman has repeatedly sidestepped any contract talk publicly. But it’s unlikely next year begins without him and the team at least discussing his long-term status in the organization at some point."

There’s also more Dodgers coverage circulating around the roster and the organization, including a look at a 21-year-old lineup solution, Miguel Rojas’ new job after announcing retirement, Andrew Friedman’s response to claims that the dynasty is over, and three prospects who could play major roles in 2027.

Dodgers Could Be Lurking For Baseballs Next Huge Trade Prize

Junior Caminero has spent the season looking every bit like the kind of young power bat that changes a lineup, and the 23-year-old Rays third baseman has only raised his profile with a strong showing in the 2026 World Series after launching 42 home runs in the regular season. For a Tampa Bay club that has long had to weigh talent against payroll reality, that kind of production puts Caminero squarely in the center of a future decision the Rays may not want to face.

Jorge Castillo reported that Caminero is aiming for a record-setting contract in the neighborhood of the deals signed by Juan Soto or Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a price tag Tampa Bay may not be able to match. If that path eventually opens the door to a trade, the Dodgers would make plenty of sense as a contender with the financial muscle, a deep farm system and the roster flexibility to chase another star-caliber addition. Dodgers Just Added A Wild Baseball Show Fans Will Circle Now

Dodger Stadium is getting a very different kind of baseball show in April 2027, when the Savannah Bananas and their Banana Ball World Tour come to Los Angeles. The announcement adds another layer to a ballpark that has hosted just about everything over the years, but this one is built around the Banana Ball style that has turned the Bananas into one of the sports most talked-about attractions.

The event will use a lottery system for ticket access, which figures to make the chase almost as notable as the show itself. More details on game times and other event information are still to come, but for Dodgers fans, the date is already one to mark down because this is not the usual night at the ballpark. Dodgers Face One Crucial Free Agency Call After Costly Misses

Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young winner set to hit free agency, still sees the Dodgers as a franchise built to stay at the top even after their sweep in the National League Championship Series. That kind of external belief matters for a team that just watched its season end earlier than expected, especially with the front office already weighing how to retool around a roster that came up short when it counted most.

Brandon Gomes has already acknowledged the uneven regular-season returns from Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz, even as both players made meaningful postseason contributions, which only adds to the sense that Los Angeles has decisions to sort through on the margins as much as the stars. One of those calls centers on left-handed reliever Alex Vesia, who is also headed for free agency and could draw interest elsewhere even if the Dodgers try to keep him on a team-friendly deal.
