The Los Angeles Dodgers might have pulled off another masterstroke.
Five years after the blockbuster trade that brought Mookie Betts to LA, the Dodgers seem to have once again capitalized on a deal with the Boston Red Sox. This time, it's about the promising potential of two young talents acquired from Boston’s farm system.
Zach Ehrhard and James Tibbs III have been making waves since joining the Dodgers in exchange for Dustin May. Their performances suggest that this trade could become another regrettable chapter for the Red Sox.
James Tibbs III is turning heads in Cactus League action, leading the Dodgers with three home runs and posting an impressive .333/.375/.667 slash line in 42 at-bats. Meanwhile, Zach Ehrhard is showcasing his versatility, taking the most at-bats of any Dodger (46) and leading the team in doubles (5) and stolen bases (4).
The contrast between what Tibbs and Ehrhard are contributing and what Dustin May provided the Red Sox is stark. May had a tough stint in Boston before signing with the St. Louis Cardinals after just half a season.
Reflecting on the trade, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes might have downplayed the value of Tibbs and Ehrhard. Back in July 2025, Gomes remarked, “We’re excited about adding both of those guys as future talent.”
If their current trajectory continues, Tibbs and Ehrhard could soon be making significant contributions at the major league level, potentially turning this trade into another feather in the Dodgers' cap.
